4 New Wetlands designated as Ramsar Sites (Total 89 now)

These New Wetlands are :-

1. Sakkarakottai Bird Sanctuary (Tamil Nadu)
2. Therthangal Bird Sanctuary Tamil Nadu)
3. Khecheopalri Wetland (Sikkim)
4. Udhwa Lake (Jharkhand)

The Ramsar Convention was signed in 1971 at Ramsar, Iran. It Came into force from 21st December, 1975. India signed it on 1st February 1982.

• Theme for the Year 2025 :- "Protecting wetlands for our common future."
