απωλειας (apoleias), the original Greek word translated "of perdition," means "of destruction" or "of ruin," so "the son of perdition" means the son of destruction or ruin.
'Apollyon' means "destroyer".
Not only was Titus Vespasian a man of lawlessness (a Gentile), but he was also a son of perdition.
"'The destruction of Jerusalem came through a Kamza and a Bar Kamza.'
Footnote: Literally, 'locust and son of locust'. The meaning is that a very trivial cause set in motion the train of events which led to the destruction of Jerusalem." - Talmud, Gittin 55a

Revelation 9:10 says that these 'locusts' were allowed to attack and torment the city relentlessly for five months. As the besieged people of Jerusalem slowly starved from famine, many of them made graves for themselves, and crawling in, laid there day and night, awaiting death's relief.
"And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them." Revelation 9:6
Jewish historian Josephus, as well as several Roman historians, recorded that the Roman siege of Jerusalem in 70 AD lasted for five months. Even more significantly, this siege began in mid-April of that year and lasted until late August/ early September, the very same period when locusts would normally appear in Judea.

REVELATION 9:13-21
This is the same army as the army of 'locusts', the Roman army (note the nearly identical physical description). In the last judgement, they are given power to *torment* the jews for five months. In this judgement, they are given the power to kill a third of them by fire and other plagues.
"And loosed were the four messengers, who have been made ready for the hour, and day, and month, and year, that they may kill the third of men; and the number of the forces of the horsemen was twice ten thousand ten thousands, and I heard the number of them. by these three were the third of men killed, from the fire, and from the smoke, and from the brimstone, that is proceeding out of their mouth. Revelation 9:15-16, 18
The Greek word for “twice ten thousand” or twenty thousand of v. 16 is “dismyriades.” Each of the three major units of Titus’ army consisted of a dismyriades or 20,000 soldiers. Aside from the Roman army, Titus had a foreign army of 80,000 men including: Macedonians, Britains, Aramites, Africans, Burgundians, Redarans, Persians, and Chaldeans.
It is interesting to note that Josephus states that there were more than 3 million jews in Jerusalem at the time of the siege. Of those 3+ million, 1.1 million died.
Exactly one third.

"And as Vespasian drew nigh Rome, all the citizens came forth to meet him. . .Vespasian took displeasure with Agrippa upon the information of certain evil disposed persons that had slandered him, wherefore Vespasian put both him and his son Munabas to death.
This befel three years and a half before the destruction of Jerusalem. Moreover, before this deed, the continual sacrifice ceased for a thousand two hundred and ninety days, as it is written in Daniel Ch. 12. "And from the time that the continual sacrifice shall be taken away, and abomination shall be put into desolation, a thousand two hundred and ninety days."
"But this is it that I marvel most, that ye have read in the Book of Daniel and understand it not, which is now fulfilled in all points, and yet never a one of you doth mark it, the continual sacrifice is already ceased a good while ago, the anointed Priest is cut away and put down. These things, tho' they be most manifest, yet your hearts cannot believe them."

As a Preterist, I often have people ask..
"Well, if Jesus isn't coming back, then what do we have to look forward to?"
The fact that they would even ask this question baffles me.
We have eternity with Christ in heaven to look forward to. Is there anything better?
"So then, if all prophecy has been fulfilled, what am I supposed to do now?"
Folks, God gave us an instruction manual on how to live as citizens of the kingdom of God. It's called the Bible. If you have questions, the answers are in there. God gave you everything you need.
Remember, we are in this world, but we are not of it. We're just passing through.

“The Apocalypse contains prophecies with which the very persons to whom it was sent were immediately concerned. But if none of these prophecies were designed to be completed till long after their death, those persons were not immediately concerned with them, and the author would surely not have said that they were blessed in reading prophecies of which the time was at hand, if those prophecies were not to be fulfilled till after the lapse of many ages.”

"It has been well said that, 'the OT is the NT concealed and the NT is the OT revealed.' The Apostle Paul preached no other things except that which could be found in the Law and Prophets (Acts 24:13-15; 26:22). The NT is not coming up with something new, but rather unfolding the mystery and salvation that was contained in the OT. Jesus is the “yes and amen” to all the promises in the OT scriptures (cf. 2 Cor. 1:20). The OT/OC with all of it’s types and shadows of being blessed and saved “in the land” and through the Temple system typified the spiritual substance of a salvation “in Christ” preached through the NT/NC Temple – the Church."
