TYPOLOGY is a method of biblical interpretation whereby an element found in the Old Testament is seen to prefigure one found in the New Testament. The initial one is called the type, and the fulfillment is designated the antitype.
Type:
These are the names of the men which Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Oshe´a the son of Nun, Jehoshua [Jesus]. (Numbers 13:16)
Jesus [Joshua] means 'Savior' or 'the Lord is my salvation', and he would be the one to lead the Israelites to the promised land, a type of the Kingdom of God.
But Joshua [Jesus] the son of Nun, which standeth before thee, he shall go in thither: encourage him: for he shall cause Israel to inherit it. (Deuteronomy 1:38)
Antitype:
She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins. (Matthew 1:21)
He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. (Revelation 21:7)
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? (1 John 5:4 - 5 )
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ. (Romans 8:16 - 17)
Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, would lead the children of God to their true inheritance, the heavenly promised land, the Kingdom of God.
