Parts of Eye – One Line Functions

Cornea – Transparent front layer that bends (refracts) incoming light.

Aqueous humour – Fluid that nourishes cornea and lens; maintains pressure.

Iris – Coloured part that controls size of pupil.

Pupil – Opening that regulates amount of light entering eye.

Lens – Focuses light on retina by changing shape.

Ciliary muscles – Adjust lens curvature for near and distant vision (accommodation).

Vitreous humour – Jelly-like substance that maintains eyeball shape.

Retina – Light-sensitive layer where image is formed.

Rods – Help in dim light (black & white vision).

Cones – Help in bright light and colour vision.

Yellow spot (Fovea) – Point of sharpest and most detailed vision.

Blind spot – Area where optic nerve leaves; no image formed.

Optic nerve – Carries visual impulses to brain.

Sclera – White outer protective covering of eye.

Choroid – Supplies blood and prevents internal reflection of light.
