Hey, Rayers! I’m Young K, or Kang Younghyun. As the bassist, lead vocalist, and rapper of the incredible K-pop rock band DAY6. I wear a lot of hats in the group—writing lyrics, composing music, and bringing the energy to our performances—but at my core, I’m just a guy who loves connecting with fans through music and maybe sneaking in a nap or a snack whenever I can.
I was born on December 19, 1993, in Seoul, South Korea, which makes me 31 years old as of 2025. I spent my early years in Ilsan, South Korea, but when I was a teenager, my family moved to Toronto, Canada, where I soaked up a whole new culture and polished my English. I’m 5’11” (180 cm) tall, weigh around 149.9 lbs (68 kg), and my blood type is B. Education-wise, I’m a bit of a brainiac—I graduated from York Mills Collegiate Institute in Canada and later earned a degree in Business Administration from Dongguk University back in Korea. As an only child, I’ve always been independent, but I found my second family in DAY6 and our amazing fans. In the band, I’m the bassist, lead vocalist, main rapper, and a key songwriter, pouring my heart into our music to create songs that resonate with you all.
Now, let’s get to the fun stuff—some trivia that makes me, well, me! Growing up, I was a bit of a nerd, and I’m not ashamed to admit it. Back in school, I won a gold medal in a math dance competition—yep, you read that right! Imagine me solving equations while busting a move. It’s safe to say my competitive streak hasn’t faded, as I was also named the 2022 US 8th Army Best Warrior during my military service. Music wasn’t always my path, though. Before DAY6, I didn’t even know what a bass guitar was! I was a guitarist, but when I got assigned the bass, I practiced like crazy (after a few tears, I’ll admit) and now I’m proud to hold down the low end for our band’s signature pop-rock sound. Oh, and fun fact: I learned English partly by watching Shrek in Canada. That ogre’s humor totally shaped my vibe, and I’m also a huge Harry Potter fan—proud Ravenclaw with my own wand to prove it!
I’m a total foodie. I’ve jokingly said my only talents are eating and sleeping, but I think I’ve got a bit more to offer (fans seem to agree!). I love cooking, trying new dishes, and sharing meals with my DAY6 members. When I’m not making music or eating, you might find me geeking out over my figurine collection or diving into Lord of the Rings. I’m a self-proclaimed nerd who looks pretty darn good in glasses, if I do say so myself. As a lyricist, I’ve got over 156 song credits with JYP Entertainment, and writing is my way of pouring my emotions into something you can sing along to. I’ve also dabbled in radio hosting, acting, and MC-ing, which keeps things exciting. Fans call me K-pop’s all-rounder, and I’m flattered, but I’m just out here trying to live my fullest potential every day.
Being in DAY6 is the ride of a lifetime, and I’m so grateful for the love from My Days—you guys make it all worth it.
