The NYPD was fully unleashed today, as they violently cracked down on a Nakba Day march in Bay Ridge, the beating heart of New York’s Arab community. White shirts (senior officers) were seen on video punching protesters who lay on the ground, knocking some unconscious, and pulling protesters from the crowd at random. Organizers have reported many serious injuries and are requesting both jail support and medical staff/materials at 1 Police Plaza.

Although state and local police officers arrived on the scene, they shortly dispersed after organizers communicated their demands.

The New School encampment has secured a public commitment to a divestment vote within the next month by its Board of Trustees, something that every other governing body of the school has voted overwhelmingly in favor of. As part of this agreement they have ended their 6 day occupation of all 7 stories of the Lama Jamous Center (72 5th Avenue). The students, faculty, alumni, and community members who make up the encampment group remain committed to continuing to fight for academic boycott and the other demands of their encampment. In lieu of the rally that they had scheduled for May 20th they are picketing school's benefit gala on the 21st. Making it clear that they will continue to be militant over divestment until the board votes yes. The administration will not have peace until Palestine has justice.
