๐ต๐ฑ๐บ๐ฆ Poland and Ukraine have agreed to exhume Volyn massacre victims. The procedure is set to begin in April.
In 1943, UPA carried out a series of massacres in the Volyn and Eastern Galicia regions, resulting in the deaths of an estimated 100,000 Polish civilians. The massacre has impacted relations between both countries, as Poland recognises it as a genocide and Ukraine as a conflict in which both sides were responsible, with Polish government and opposition officials stating that Kyiv wonโt join any alliance until the issue is resolved. In an opinion poll carried out by the Mieroszewski Center, the percentage of Ukrainians having a good opinion of Poles has decreased from 67% to 44.5% in the past year.

๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ต๐ธ๐ถ๐ฆ๐บ๐ธ In the last hours, there are rumours of a hostage deal between Israel and Hamas, which could pave the way for a ceasefire.
The US is pressing for a deal before Donald Trump takes office on 20 January. Through Trumpโs Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, Netanyahu has been forced to accept compromises. While the Israeli PM had been pushing for a temporary ceasefire that only related to the first phase of the three-stage proposal Israel submitted last May, the final agreement is increasingly closer to the original offer, with clauses connecting the first phase with the two others. This will make it harder for Israel to resume fighting once the initial stage goes into place. Itโs also rumoured that Israel will agree to withdraw from the Philadelphi Corridor during the first phase, even though most officials deny it up to date.
This evening Netanyahu is meeting with national security minister Itamar Ben Gvir, who is the most fierce opponent of a deal. Tomorrow is the next top level meeting in Doha.

๐ฌ @PoliticsGR Commentary:
๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ต๐ธ๐ถ๐ฆ๐บ๐ธ There have been talks about a ceasefire for months, so take that with a grain of salt, both sides could increase their demands tomorrow, especially since the Netanyahu government depends on the extremist vote.
But I am generally more optimistic this time, as Trumpโs term approaches and his containment approach wonโt be any different than the current administration more willingness will be shown to implement a diplomatic solution.

๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ต๐ธ๐ถ๐ฆ๐บ๐ธ The hostage deal between Israel and Hamas, which could pave the way for a ceasefire, could be announced as early as today.
There is stark opposition from Ben Gvir and Smotrich, while opposition leader Yair Lapid said he would support the deal. Some Israeli media are already calling it a blow.

The deal being formed is a surrender deal to Hamas.
I call on my friend, Minister Bezalel Smotrich, to join me and cooperate together against a surrender deal to Hamas.
Otzma Yehudit (his party) alone does not have the ability to prevent the deal, I suggest that we go together to Netanyahu and inform him that if he passes the deal we will resign from the government.
I emphasize that even if we are in opposition, we will not bring down the Prime Minister, but this cooperation is our only way to prevent the surrender deal, prevent the terrible deal and ensure that the deaths of hundreds of soldiers were not in vain

We will not be part of a surrender deal that would include releasing terrorists, stopping the war and dissolving the achievements that were bought with much blood, and abandoning many hostages.
Now is the time to continue with all our might, to occupy and cleanse the entire Strip, to finally take control of humanitarian aid from Hamas, and to open the gates of hell on Gaza until Hamas surrenders completely and all the hostages are returned.

๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ต๐ธ๐ถ๐ฆ๐บ๐ธ US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken also revealed his postwar management plan of Gaza, in which he envisioned the Palestinian Authority (PA) in collaboration with international partners establish an interim administration responsible for running civil sectors in Gaza.
The committee would work with a senior UN official appointed to oversee the international Gaza reconstruction effort. There will also be an interim security mission made up of troops from US-allied countries along with vetted Palestinian personnel, which will enforce security in the Strip. Israel will provide significant funding to all sectors.
In essence, a reformed PA would control both the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.
๐ฌ I donโt see how either Hamas or Israel would agree to this, it depends on how Trump will push the current administrationโs position.
