Armed Suspect Gets Shot by Officers Responding To a Home Burglary in Lancaster County

Lancaster, Pennsylvania — On August 6, 2023, a resident of the New Street address was alerted by a home video security system to someone entering her home. The resident called her 14-year-old son, who was home alone, and told him to go out onto the roof to wait for police to arrive. The resident then called 911 and reported that someone that appeared to be a masked juvenile entered her home. A review of the home security camera shows the suspect, 17-year-old Darron Shaw repositioning the outside, wall-mounted camera toward the ground before entering the home. The camera is later found on the ground outside the doorway. Shaw is then recorded on a camera in the kitchen crouching down and moving through the kitchen area.
Police were dispatched to the West New Street residence for a burglary in progress at approximately 12:10 a.m. Two responding officers, Officers 1 and 2, approach the rear of the residence and walk past the door where Shaw eventually exits. The officers observe a broken window in the interior open door, which is partially ajar. One officer speaks to the juvenile on the roof and is told the suspect is still inside. Both officers take a position in the rear of the yard to the left of the doorway. Almost immediately after getting into their positions, Shaw appears at the rear door, opens the outside door, and points what was later determined to be a loaded, semi-automatic 9mm gun with extended magazine in the direction of a third officer who was between the houses.
A third arriving officer stops at the end of a narrow breezeway to the right of the door just prior to Shaw appearing at the rear door. The two responding officers fired at Shaw who was struck four to five times and then continued to flee the area, climbing over a fence, and travelling approximately 102 feet before collapsing. Responding officers cautiously approach Shaw and begin to render aid. Officers then carried Shaw to an arriving ambulance. Shaw was taken to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The gun and extended magazine were recovered on the interior side of the fence that Shaw jumped over. According to the autopsy, Shaw was hit in his left front abdominal area, left hand, left lower thigh, right foot, and the back of his right knee. Lancaster County District Attorney Heather Adams has concluded that both officers were legally justified when they deployed their firearms at Shaw.

Phoenix Cop Shoots Man Running With a Gun in His Hand

Phoenix, Arizona — On August 1, 2023, the Phoenix Police received an emergency call of a subject waving a gun in a north Phoenix neighborhood near 35th Avenue and Bell Road. The caller indicated a male was on a residential street waiving a gun wearing a white shirt and gray pants. Additional information was learned that the 21-year-old suspect had also been intimidating neighbors with the gun and may have been the subject of an emergency 911 call the day before for similar activity. As the officers drove to the area, they learned that the suspect was accompanied by another man.When the first two officers arrived, they saw the two men sitting on a short landscaping wall.
As the marked patrol Tahoe stopped in the road, one of the men began removing a handgun from his waist band as he ran in the direction of the passenger officer, who had just gotten out of the Tahoe. The man continued to run in the direction of the officer while holding the handgun. It was at this time the officer involved shooting took place. Following the shooting, officers rendered aid to the man before Phoenix Fire personnel took him to the hospital where he was treated for serious injuries. The handgun the man was holding was recovered by patrol officers and placed in a patrol Tahoe for safe keeping. The second man involved in the situation was taken into custody without incident and found to be in possession of a handgun. The wounded suspect has not yet been identified.

Former Sergeant Charged With Assault After Repeatedly Kicking DUI Suspect in Head

Merced County, California — On March 11, 2023, a Merced County Sheriff’s deputy detained Louis Jackson following a crash in which he was suspected of driving under the influence, according to the Merced County District Attorney’s Office. Former Sergeant, 42-year-old Dustin Witt responded to the scene to assist and during the encounter, Witt kicked Jackson in the head several times, according to the distinct attorney’s office. By June, Witt resigned after the Sheriff's Office launched an internal affairs investigation. Witt has been charged with assault by a public officer, assault likely to cause great bodily injury and an enhancement for inflicting great bodily injury.
Witt was still serving as a deputy despite a 2019 demotion and misdemeanor conviction following a drunken brawl during which he and another deputy, who was also a Merced City Council member, beat up another peace officer and a bystander. The bar brawl on Dec. 15, 2018, followed a Sheriff’s Office Christmas party where Witt admitted to “heavy drinking,” according to the Merced Sun-Star. 19-year-old Gets Shot by Montgomery County Police Officer After Stabbing Spree in Maryland

Silver Spring, Maryland — On July 22, 2023, at approximately 10:35 a.m., officers with the Montgomery County Police Department responded to a business in the 12200 block of Veirs Mill Road for the report of a stabbing. Once on scene, they located one adult woman stabbing victim. Approximately one minute after the first 911 call a second 911 call was received for two women stabbed in the 4100 block of Colie Drive. Upon officers’ arrival, they located two women suffering from stab wounds and discovered an adult male suffering from a superficial stab wound. Officers obtained a description of the male suspect and began canvassing the area for him.
At least one officer located a man matching the description armed with a knife in the 4300 block of Havard Street. The suspect was later identified as 19-year-old Franklin Castro Ordonez of Gaithersburg, Maryland. Body cam footage shows Officer Justin Lee gave commands for Castro Ordonez to drop the knife, but he did not comply and then advanced toward the Officer Lee while holding the knife. Officer Lee discharged his firearm several times striking Castro Ordonez. Officers called for EMS and performed CPR. Castro Ordonez was pronounced dead on scene. A knife was recovered near Castro Ordonez at the shooting scene. No officers were injured. Three of the stabbing victims were taken to area hospitals. The fourth victim was treated on the scene and released.

19-year-old Gets Shot by Montgomery County Police Officer After Stabbing Spree in Maryland

Silver Spring, Maryland — On July 22, 2023, at approximately 10:35 a.m., officers with the Montgomery County Police Department responded to a business in the 12200 block of Veirs Mill Road for the report of a stabbing. Once on scene, they located one adult woman stabbing victim. Approximately one minute after the first 911 call a second 911 call was received for two women stabbed in the 4100 block of Colie Drive. Upon officers’ arrival, they located two women suffering from stab wounds and discovered an adult male suffering from a superficial stab wound. Officers obtained a description of the male suspect and began canvassing the area for him.
At least one officer located a man matching the description armed with a knife in the 4300 block of Havard Street. The suspect was later identified as 19-year-old Franklin Castro Ordonez of Gaithersburg, Maryland. Body cam footage shows Officer Justin Lee gave commands for Castro Ordonez to drop the knife, but he did not comply and then advanced toward the Officer Lee while holding the knife. Officer Lee discharged his firearm several times striking Castro Ordonez. Officers called for EMS and performed CPR. Castro Ordonez was pronounced dead on scene. A knife was recovered near Castro Ordonez at the shooting scene. No officers were injured. Three of the stabbing victims were taken to area hospitals. The fourth victim was treated on the scene and released.

Bodycam Footage Shows intense Moments as Gunman Fires on Fargo Police Officers

Bismarck, North Dakota — On July 14, 2023, Fargo Police Officers were responding to a routine traffic accident on 25th Street South in Fargo on the afternoon when, 37-year-old Mohamed Barakat opened fire on officers and first responders with a .223 caliber rifle. Police Officers Andrew Dotas and Tyler Hawes were shot and critically injured. Officer Wallin ran toward Barakat’s vehicle, was able to unholster his weapon and fire one shot before he was hit by Barakat. Officer Wallin was fatally shot once by Barakat. Wallin’s training officer, Zach Robinson, engaged in gunfire with Barakat. Officer Robinson radios for help, reporting officers down, and continues to try to neutralize the shooter who has been struck and is on the ground, but continues to reach for the .223 caliber rifle and 9 mm handgun on his person.
Bystander Karlee Koswick, who was involved in the initial crash on 25th Street South, was shot after the three officers were already down. She tried to run for cover when she was hit by Barakat. Officials say when Barakat’s attention turned toward her, Robinson had the opportunity to fatally shoot Barakat. Officer Robinson fired 31 rounds at Barakat and hit him 21 times. Officer Robinson told him to drop his gun 16 times, to which Barakat continued to wave a gun around. Officials believe Barakat was wearing some type of body armor during the exchange. Barakat was shot and killed around 2 minutes into the altercation. His vehicle was loaded with three long rifles, four handguns, more than 1,800 .223-caliber bullets, three canisters filled with gasoline, and two propane tanks filled with Tannerite, explosive materials used for target practice.
Investigators said Barakat searched online for articles about mass casualty incidents and the Downtown Street Fair, suggesting to authorities he intended to open fire on thousands of people attending the event. Police visited Barakat's home and interviewed him at least twice in recent years due to concerns related to his guns, though authorities say he appeared to have acquired the weapons legally. Barakat was a Syrian national who came to the U.S. on an asylum request in 2012 and became a U.S. citizen in 2019. The injured officers, Andrew Dotas and Tyler Hawes, and bystander, Karlee Koswick, have since been released from the hospital and are still recovering from their injuries. Officer Robinson has undergone a mandatory psychological evaluation and came back to work in the office for a period of time. Robinson decided he was ready to go back in the field and is currently back on the streets with another officer.

Seattle Police Harbor Patrol Officers Rescue Man From Drowning in Portage Bay

— On August 16, 2023, at 7:45 p.m., Seattle Police Department Harbor Patrol officers responded to multiple 911 calls of a man in behavioral crisis swimming off the shore of Fritz Hedges Waterway Park. Harbor patrol officers arrived within minutes and located the man at the water line. Officers attempted to establish communication with the male before land units arrived. However, the man re-entered the water and began to drown. Officers maneuvered the boat towards the male and threw him a flotation device. The male was unable to grab the device and quickly sank beneath the surface. An officer shed his gear and dove into the water. After multiple free dives in thick marine vegetation, the officer found the victim at the bottom of the water. The officer pulled the victim to the shore, but the man was not breathing. Officers began CPR and thanks to their efforts, the male regained consciousness. Seattle Fire Department personnel arrived and the victim was transported to the hospital in stable condition.

Louisville, Kentucky — On August 3, 2023, around 10:00 p.m., LMPD's 5th Division officers received a call from a community member to respond to the 2000 block of New Main Street on a report of gunshots being fired in the neighborhood. Preliminary information reveals that a resident heard a loud pop outside. Initially, the resident was unsure if the sound was a gunshot. When the resident went outside to investigate, he saw a backpack and a laptop under his truck directly in front of his house. He then heard additional gunfire. When officers arrived on scene, they spoke to the resident and began their investigation. At approximately 10:19 p.m., officers advised they heard shots being fired towards their direction.
One officer advised that he may have been struck and felt something hit his leg. Roughly 10 minutes later, the individual fired shots near the officers on New Main Street. Additional officers on the Frankfort Avenue side of the incident began responding to the gunfire. A short time later, a subject was located in an alley and pointed a handgun at Officer Roberto Cedeno. Officer Cedeno discharged his weapon striking the subject. A loaded firearm was found in the individual's right hand. The subject was also in possession of an additional magazine loaded with ammunition. 46-year-old male, James Monti, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at University of Louisville Hospital. Officer Cedeno has two years of service with Louisville Metro Police Department.

Cadillac Police Officer Shoots Man Who Charges at Him With a Machete

Cadillac, Michigan — On Saturday, August 12, 2023, around 9:30 p.m., an officer with the Cadillac Police Department was dispatched to Aldrich Street on what initially was reported as an attempted breaking and entering. From the body cam footage it can be heard a dispatcher telling the officer that the people who called 911 are inside the house, and that suspect is trying to break into a neighbor’s shed. Once the officer arrives at the scene, he spoke to a neighbor who said, 49-year-old Matthew Bigler had just pushed in his air-conditioning unit and was trying to get into his house. The officer also spoke to a woman living next door, who identified herself as the girlfriend of Bigler, who also lived at the residence and was in possession of the machete. She claimed that when she returned home from work that night, Bigler informed her that he loved her but that she needed to leave the house.
She expressed her confusion as to why he was behaving in that way. Officer then knocks on a door that appears to lead to a backyard and shouts Bigler's name. As he opens the door, Bigler can be seen in the yard holding a machete above a dog's neck, at which point the officer fires his handgun. In the video, the officer states that he fired three shots. The officers then rendered medical aid and began CPR, but Bigler was pronounced dead at the scene. The Michigan Department of Corrections’ Offender Tracking Information System shows that Matthew Bigler was on probation for assaulting, resisting and obstructing a police officer on March 26 in Oceana County. He pleaded to that charge and was sentenced on July 17. In addition, Bigler had a conviction in 2011 for third-degree fleeing from a police officer in Kent County; he also was charged with larceny from a person on Aug. 7, 1994, in Kent County and served 2 1/2 years in prison for that conviction.

Fresno Officer Shoots Masked 15-year-old Boy Pulling Replica Gun From Waistband

Fresno, California — On July 30, 2023, at 10:32 a.m., an officer with the Fresno Police Department responded to the 100 block of East Warner Avenue regarding a report of a vehicle that had been abandoned in the roadway. While the officer was in the process of having the vehicle towed, he was approached by a community member who told him that there was a young male on a scooter nearby that had a gun. The officer alerted Fresno Police dispatch of the community member’s report. As the officer drove southbound on North Effie Street, he observed a subject that matched the description of the subject reportedly armed with the gun. The officer notified dispatch, pulled to the side of the road and made contact with the subject. The officer ordered the subject, who was wearing a ski mask, to raise his hands and get down on his knees.
The subject complied, got down on his knees but then began to reach for an object in his waistband. The officer told him to raise his hands, but he continued to reach for the object. The subject pulled a gun from his waistband. Upon seeing this, the officer discharged his service weapon. The officer immediately requested paramedics and began to render first aid while they responded. The subject was transported to the hospital, he is listed in stable condition and is expected to recover from his injury. It was determined later that the subject was a 15-year-old juvenile. At the scene, the officer recovered the juvenile’s unloaded Glock 19 X .177 caliber bb pistol. The weapon is a replica of a Glock semiautomatic handgun with all Glock stampings. The juvenile was cited for PC 417.4 (brandishing an imitation firearm) and released to the custody of his guardian. The investigation into this critical incident is ongoing.

Houston Police Officers Shoot Suspect After Pointing a Gun at Them

Houston, Texas — On July 27, 2023, Crime Suppression Team officers were searching for a Toyota Tundra stolen in an aggravated robbery earlier in the day when they located the vehicle in an apartment complex located at 6600 Dunlap Street. However, because of the angle of the vehicle, the officers were unable to tell if anyone was in the vehicle. Officers watched the entrance/exits of the complex and, shortly after, spotted the vehicle (occupied by one person) leave the apartment complex.
When officers attempted to conduct a felony traffic stop in a marked police vehicle, the suspect fled from officers. After a short vehicle pursuit, the suspect crashed the vehicle on Renwick Drive, exited the vehicle and ran into an apartment complex at 5800 Dashwood Drive. As pursuing officers approached the suspect, officers stated the male raised a pistol and pointed it at them. Two officers discharged their weapons and struck the suspect. Officers administered first aid to the suspect before paramedics transported the male to Memorial Hermann Hospital – Texas Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

Branson Police Officers Shoot Man After He Pulls Gun on Them

Branson, Missouri — On February 28, 2023, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Branson officers located a known wanted subject at a gas station in the 1100 block of W. 76 Country Blvd. and made contact with the driver, who was alone in the vehicle with a dog. After an initial investigation into the driver’s identity, it was determined that he was 43-year-old Randall Wesolek Jr., of Taney County. When officers instructed Wesolek to exit the car, a struggle ensued, a gun was produced and officers fired their weapons. The officers secured the scene and began performing life saving measures for Wesolek who died of his injuries on scene. No officers were injured. Wesolek’s dog, a grey and white Pit Bull type breed, appeared to have been injured in the incident and ran off while the officers were securing the scene. Officers have not been able to locate the dog.

Branson, Missouri — On February 28, 2023, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Branson officers located a known wanted subject at a gas station in the 1100 block of W. 76 Country Blvd. and made contact with the driver, who was alone in the vehicle with a dog. After an initial investigation into the driver’s identity, it was determined that he was 43-year-old Randall Wesolek Jr., of Taney County. When officers instructed Wesolek to exit the car, a struggle ensued, a gun was produced and officers fired their weapons. The officers secured the scene and began performing life saving measures for Wesolek who died of his injuries on scene. No officers were injured. Wesolek’s dog, a grey and white Pit Bull type breed, appeared to have been injured in the incident and ran off while the officers were securing the scene. Officers have not been able to locate the dog.

LAPD Officers Shoot Knife-Wielding Man As The Elevator Opens in Skid Row

Los Angeles, California — On July 20, 2023, at around 11:35 a.m., Newton Patrol Division uniformed officers responded to a radio call of an Assault with a Deadly Weapon (ADW) suspect there now, where the caller indicated that the suspect, while armed with a knife was threatening another person. The assault occurred at an apartment building located in the 1000 block of East 7th Street. Officers arrived at the location and met with security, who advised that the suspect, 56-year-old Billy Stribling was located on the 6th floor of the building. Security staff escorted the officers to the elevator where they ascended to the 6th floor.
Upon the elevator doors opening on the 6th floor, the officers encountered Stribling, who was armed with a knife and an umbrella. Stribling raised the knife above his head and advanced towards the officers which resulted in an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) and simultaneous deployment of a 40mm less-lethal projectile. Stribling was struck by gunfire and by the less lethal projectile. He fell to the ground and was taken into custody without further incident. Officers at scene rendered aid to Stribling until the arrival of Los Angeles City Fire Department personnel. He was transported by rescue ambulance to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. No officers or bystanders were injured during this incident. A five-inch fixed blade knife was recovered at scene and booked as evidence.

Police Rescue Woman Found Chained To Floor inside Louisville Home

Louisville, Kentucky — On Wednesday, August 16, 2023, around 7:00 p.m., Louisville Metro Police Officers were called to a home in the 1700 block of Bolling Avenue after calls came in from neighbors reporting a woman screaming for help. When the officers arrived, police said they heard and saw a woman in distress in the second-story window. Officers tried to get into the house from the front door but it was barricaded, so instead, they found a ladder and climbed in through the window. Once inside, police found the woman with a chain around her neck, which was secured by a MasterLock, and that chain was bolted to the floor with screws. Officers ripped the chain from the floor and rescued the woman from the home. She was immediately treated by first responders.
On August 18, 2023, Officers arrested 36-year-old Moises May in connection with the incident. According to May's arrest report, on Monday the woman and May had a verbal argument that became physical. May allegedly grabbed the victim and held her down on the bathroom floor while he took a machete to cut off the majority of her hair and slapped her before she was able to leave. When she came back to the home on Wednesday to get her belongings, May locked the doors with a deadbolt that only he had a key to, trapping her inside.
May forced the woman to take off some of her clothes and told her, “You’re gonna get it tonight. I told you the next time you leave and don’t come home, I’d kill you.” He also slapped her. Afterward, he took her upstairs and chained her to the floor before leaving the house, taking her phone with him. The woman was able to bust open a window and scream for help. Neighbors heard her screaming and called 911. Police said the woman and May have a child together. May is charged with kidnapping, wanton endangerment, assault and several other charges. He is currently being held on a $100,000 cash bond.

Jacksonville, Florida — On August 6, 2023, at 4:30 p.m. officers were called to the area for a reported stabbing incident. They found a man, who has not been identified, stabbed to death in the front yard of a home on Pickett Street near Edgewood Avenue, which prompted a search for the stabber, later identified as 29-year-old Juan Johnson. Police believe Johnson and the stabbing victim knew each other. According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, Johnson was found lying in the bushes of a front yard and a dog was also found fatally stabbed near the same area, police said.
According to JSO, an officer told Johnson to “show his hands” multiple times, but Johnson did not comply with the officer’s demands and instead, aggressively stood up. The officer used a stun gun on Johnson but that did not stop Johnson from grabbing a large metal bucket and running toward the officer, police said. The officer then fired several rounds, striking Johnson. JSO did not say how many times he was hit. First aid was administered before paramedics arrived at the scene to take Johnson to the hospital, where he died. The officer suffered a minor injury to the arm. The State Attorney’s Office is investigating.

San Diego, California — On August 11, 2023, around 3 a.m. San Diego Police officers were called to an apartment complex in the 3400 block of Lebon Drive after a security guard reported a burglary in an underground parking garage, police said. The guard had told police that two men driving a Ford F-150 were breaking into cars. The video starts when officers arrive at the garage and two people inside the pickup truck run off in different directions. Police say there were three officers who then followed the driver, 39-year-old Justin Teague, around the complex. As the video continues, at least one officer can be heard shouting at Teague to get on the ground. After several seconds of foot chase, the video shows Teague turned toward an officer, at which point he fired his gun, police say.
The officer immediately returns fire. At least a dozen gunshots can be heard. “He’s down,” the officer is heard saying. Once Teague is on the ground, officers can be heard telling him to “stay on the ground.” They ask him where the gun is, then tell him to move away from it. Officers eventually move in to handcuff Teague. Police say when officers recovered Teague’s firearm, it was loaded and jammed with a round in its chamber. Teague was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries. The following week, Teague was charged with several counts, including attempt premeditated murder on a peace officer. The judge denied bail. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Unit is investigating the shooting. The San Diego County District Attorney’s Office will then review the investigation.

Indianapolis Officer Shoots Armed Man As He Runs Away From a Traffic Stop

Indianapolis, Indiana — On Thursday, August 3, 2023, at approximately 9:40 a.m., IMPD North District Officer Douglas Correll conducted a traffic investigation in the 3400 block of n parker avenue. The driver, later identified as 49-year-old Gary Harrell, exited his vehicle before officer Correll exited his patrol car. Harrell began a brief verbal exchange with officer Correll and then he walked back to the driver's seat of his vehicle. Officer Correll told him not to reenter his car, but Harrell reentered his vehicle. Harrell emerged from his car, holding a gun in his right hand, and then ran. A short foot pursuit followed as Harrell ran with a handgun in his right hand and a cell phone in his left hand.
Officer Correll gave verbal commands to Harrell to "Stop it, drop it." Officer Correll discharged his service weapon twice, striking Harrell once. 2nd Officer arrived and immediately provided medical aid as other arriving officers secured the handgun Harrell dropped. Officers continued medical aid until the arrival of Indianapolis emergency medical services. Harrell was transported to Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. A five-shot .357 revolver was located where Harrell dropped it on the driveway. The gun was loaded with five rounds. Officers canvassed the area in the direction where shots were fired. No officers or uninvolved citizens were injured during this incident.

Chicago Officer Shoots Fellow Cop in Hand While Firing at Fleeing Car in Englewood

Chicago, Illinois — On July 24, 2023, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) received a complaint for a trespassing incident in the area of 300 W. 56th Place. Chicago Police officers monitored the area through a Police Observation Device (POD) and observed a group of individuals in a cul-de-sac. Several Chicago Police Officers arrived in the area in four unmarked police vehicles. Upon their arrival, officers exited their vehicles to engage the group of individuals on foot as well as an individual driving a black sedan. While on foot, multiple officers attempted to engage the driver of the BMW sedan, as the vehicle attempted to leave the area, striking a police vehicle, and ultimately fleeing the scene. During this altercation, two officers discharged their firearms at the moving sedan.
Bodycam footage shows officers repeatedly ordering the man to pull over, but he continued to drive as many officers attempted to open the door. One officer, with his gun drawn and aimed at the BMW’s driver, yelled for his fellow officers to “watch for the crossfire” before firing three shots in the direction of the driver. The officer's initial shot appeared to have struck another CPD officer in the left hand, who was attempting to open the car door. The BMW driver was able to flee, and officers on the scene swiftly called "10-1," a police emergency, to report bullets fired by authorities. The gunshot seemed to strike the wounded officer's middle and ring fingers, according to the video. The wounded officer crouched to the ground after being shot and noticed blood gushing from his hand. A tourniquet was quickly administered by another officer. The officer was quickly transported to UChicago Medicine, but not before several neighbors began insulting the officer who shot his colleague.

San Diego Police Officer Shoots Suspect Reaching For The Gun

San Diego, California — San Diego, California — On August 15, 2023, at 1:23 a.m., San Diego Police dispatch received a 911 call from a motorist who said he had been followed and shot at by the occupants of a white Tesla. The victim was uninjured. The two men in the white Tesla fled the scene. A camera captured the moment that two men in a white Tesla fired at the victim on ben street. The Tesla came to a stop in front of the victim's car. As the victim drove around the Tesla, the driver and passenger fired shots at the victim. One occupant of the white Tesla was 33-year-old Benjamin Pickens.
Pickens was located later that same morning on the campus of Mesa College, where an officer-involved shooting occurred. During the incident, Pickens shot and killed a San Diego Police K9. Pickens later died at the Hospital. The second occupant of the white Tesla, who also fired shots at the victim on Ben street, was not located that morning. Investigators later identified the second occupant of the white Tesla as 31-year-old Xavier Benjamine Lacosta. Investigators obtained a warrant to arrest Lacosta and search his home. On august 15, at 6:45 p.m., San Diego Police detectives were serving a warrant at an apartment complex in the 6100 block of El Cajon Boulevard. A third-floor apartment in the building was identified as Lacosta's residence.
SDPD detectives set up a perimeter on the apartment building. Detectives made phone calls inside to the apartment, did call-outs directly outside of the apartment, and gave verbal commands and warnings for Lacosta to exit the apartment with his hands empty. Lacosta exited the apartment holding a firearm. Officers gave commands for him to drop the gun, and he complied by tossing the firearm at his feet. Officers commanded Lacosta to put his hands above his head. Suddenly, Lacosta lunged for the firearm and an officer-involved shooting occurred. Officers provided medical aid until the arrival of paramedics. Lacosta was pronounced deceased at the scene. Lacosta's firearm was recovered. It was determined to be a ghost gun. It was loaded with a round in the chamber.

San Diego Police Officer Shoots Suspect Reaching For The Gun

San Diego, California — San Diego, California — On August 15, 2023, at 1:23 a.m., San Diego Police dispatch received a 911 call from a motorist who said he had been followed and shot at by the occupants of a white Tesla. The victim was uninjured. The two men in the white Tesla fled the scene. A camera captured the moment that two men in a white Tesla fired at the victim on ben street. The Tesla came to a stop in front of the victim's car. As the victim drove around the Tesla, the driver and passenger fired shots at the victim. One occupant of the white Tesla was 33-year-old Benjamin Pickens.
Pickens was located later that same morning on the campus of Mesa College, where an officer-involved shooting occurred. During the incident, Pickens shot and killed a San Diego Police K9. Pickens later died at the Hospital. The second occupant of the white Tesla, who also fired shots at the victim on Ben street, was not located that morning. Investigators later identified the second occupant of the white Tesla as 31-year-old Xavier Benjamine Lacosta. Investigators obtained a warrant to arrest Lacosta and search his home. On august 15, at 6:45 p.m., San Diego Police detectives were serving a warrant at an apartment complex in the 6100 block of El Cajon Boulevard. A third-floor apartment in the building was identified as Lacosta's residence.
SDPD detectives set up a perimeter on the apartment building. Detectives made phone calls inside to the apartment, did call-outs directly outside of the apartment, and gave verbal commands and warnings for Lacosta to exit the apartment with his hands empty. Lacosta exited the apartment holding a firearm. Officers gave commands for him to drop the gun, and he complied by tossing the firearm at his feet. Officers commanded Lacosta to put his hands above his head. Suddenly, Lacosta lunged for the firearm and an officer-involved shooting occurred. Officers provided medical aid until the arrival of paramedics. Lacosta was pronounced deceased at the scene. Lacosta's firearm was recovered. It was determined to be a ghost gun. It was loaded with a round in the chamber.

Woman Gets Tased and Arrested After Attacking a School Secretary

Edmond, Oklahoma — On August 23, 2023, around 8:25am, a woman went to Summit Middle School hoping to get a family member/student out of class. The school ID'd the woman, 31-year old Nicole Sanders, and called the student down to the office where the student seemed distressed about leaving with the Sanders. Sanders was asked to leave and the student's mother was called. The mother told the school NOT to let her child leave with Sanders. Meanwhile, Sanders went to another door and tried to get in, but was stopped by a secretary.
Sanders then attacked that secretary as school resource officer arrived to help. Sanders then attacked the deputy, so he was forced to use his taser to bring her under control. Sanders made several threats, including that she had placed explosives in the school. The Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad searched the school and didn't find any explosives. Sanders was taken to the hospital for evaluation and faces a long list of charges including Assault and Battery; A&B on an Officer; Disturbing the Peace and Threatening an Act of Violence.
