Austin Police Officer Shoots Suspect After He Approaches Officers With a Knife

* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Austin, Texas — On Thursday, July 20, 2023, at approximately 4:54 a.m., Austin 911 Communications received a call describing a female banging on an apartment door stating a man was chasing her in the 3600 block of Menchaca Road and requesting police. The caller described a white female wearing blue jean shorts and a turquoise top. The caller said the female was sitting outside his door. At 4:55 a.m., APD officers were dispatched to the call location, and at approximately 5:00 a.m., they arrived on the scene and began speaking with the female who matched the description in the 911 call. The female said a man chased her through the apartment complex, and he had a knife. The female described the male subject as a six feet three inches tall, 60-year-old man with gray hair who was last seen wearing navy blue or black basketball shorts with a dark shirt.

At approximately 5:03 a.m., officers communicated over the police radio the man was last observed running west through the apartment complex. The man was later identified as James Woodrome. At approximately 5:06 a.m., Woodrome approached the officers in the parking lot of the apartment complex while they were speaking to the female. The male subject walked toward the officer while holding a knife in his hands. Officers began to give commands to Woodrome to drop the knife. Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation by continuously giving commands to Woodrome. He did not comply with the commands and repeatedly yelled at the officers to shoot and kill him. Officer Ricker deployed a Department-approved taser, but the taser deployment was ineffective. Woodrome continued to move forward in the direction of the officers. Officers continued commands to drop the knife and walked backwards to create more distance between them and Woodrome.

Officer Lozano then deployed a Department-approved taser, and it did not affect Woodrome. Woodrome continued to walk toward officers with the knife in his hand. Officer Reinhart discharged his Department-approved firearm toward Woodrome, at which point he fell to the ground. A knife was located on the ground next to Woodrome. Once the scene was made safe by removing the knife, the officers immediately performed life-saving measures and requested medical assistance at the scene. Woodrome succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene at 5:19 a.m. No other civilians or officers sustained physical injuries. The Officer who discharged his Department-approved firearm is Officer Adam Reinhart. The Officers who deployed their Department-approved tasers are Officer John Ricker and Officer Arlene Lozano. Per APD protocol, all three officers have been placed on administrative leave.

Florida Man Caught impersonating U.S. Marshal After Running Red Light

* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Summerfield, Florida — On Monday, July 31, 2023, Marion County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) Corporal Neil Rosaci arrested 52-year-old Derry Wayne Lambert for False Impersonation of a Law Enforcement Officer, Unlawful Use of Blue Lights, Unlawful Use of a Badge, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony, Possession of Diazepam, and Introduction of Contraband into a Detention Facility. On Monday, at approximately 5:15 p.m., Corporal Rosaci was at the Marathon gas station near South Highway 301 and SE Highway 42. While fueling his agency patrol vehicle, he heard an unfamiliar emergency siren and observed a black pickup truck, equipped with flashing red and blue emergency lights, driving around cars and through a red light. Due to the unusual tone of the siren and the fact that there were no calls for service that would require such a response from law enforcement at that time, a traffic stop was conducted.

Upon approaching the vehicle, Lambert was observed wearing a hat with the lettering “Police U.S. Marshal” and a Department of Justice seal. He also displayed a badge and claimed that he was a U.S. Marshal. Lambert advised he was responding to a shooting in Marion Oaks, but there were no reported shootings in the area. After several attempts to verify his law enforcement status yielded negative results, Corporal Rosaci contacted MCSO’s U.S. Marshal Liaison, who responded to interview Lambert. During the interview, Lambert provided inconsistent information, and it became apparent that Lambert was falsely impersonating a U.S. Marshal. A search of his vehicle revealed he had a full control panel for emergency sirens and lights, as well as a firearm. Lambert was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail. At the jail, Detention Deputy Jarred Bryant located several Diazepam pills in a concealed compartment inside Lambert’s wallet. Due to the nature of this incident, there is concern that this is not the only time Lambert has impersonated a law enforcement officer.

Bodycam Shows Drunk Man Getting Punched by Cop After Resisting Arrest in Ada, Oklahoma

* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Ada, Oklahoma — On July 31, 2023, Ada Police responded to a call of a possible drunk driver. Officers located the suspect vehicle and identified the driver as 33-year-old Justin Glaspey. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop after locating the vehicle at Wal-Mart. Glaspey drove away, ran a stop sign, and endangered others before pulling over in a different parking lot. According to police, he was drunk, combative, refused to exit the vehicle, and locked the door. Police attempted to tase Glaspey, but he grabbed the taser leads and threw them back at the officer, hitting him in the arm and leg.

Back-up officers came on the scene with a pepper ball gun before he exited the truck, but he refused to comply once more. While on the ground, Glaspey wouldn’t give officers his hands to be handcuffed. Because none of the police had batons, they began striking his shoulders to get him handcuffed, according to the report. During the scuffle, police said Glaspey bit one officer's hand and hit him in the groin. Glaspey was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, threatening an act of violence, assault and battery on a police officer, aggravated assault and battery on a police officer, resisting an officer, obstruction and eluding an officer while endangering others. Glaspey is being held without bond at the Pontotoc County Justice Center.

Arizona Detective Face Off With Armed Suspect Rapidly Firing a Fully Automatic Gun in Wild Shootout

* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Kingman, Arizona — On Wednesday, July 19, 2023, following an investigation conducted by the AZDPS Major Incident Division (MID), a jury found the suspect from an April 2022 trooper-involved shooting guilty on eleven charges, including attempted first-degree murder and aggravated assault on law enforcement.

The incident occurred on April 1, 2022, when Public Safety Detective Donald Shed attempted to pull over the driver of a BMW sedan in Kingman after he failed stop at a stop sign. The suspect driver, later identified as 48-year-old Juan Manuel Rodriguez, did not yield and a pursuit ensued. During the pursuit, Rodriguez attempted to ram Shed’s vehicle. Rodriguez later lost control and Shed collided with the front of his vehicle. Shed drew his duty pistol and initiated a high-risk traffic stop. Rodriguez did not obey commands and began reaching under the dash.

The BMW began to reverse and Shed, fearing he would be rammed again, sat back in his patrol vehicle. Rodriguez began shooting at Shed with a full-automatic weapon, as heard on the body worn camera footage. Shed returned fire and attempted to flee from the area for his safety.

Rodriguez’s vehicle struck Shed's vehicle as he fled. Rodriguez got behind Shed as he fled and began shooting at the rear of the police vehicle. Shed returned fire through his back window. During the exchange, Shed was struck in the back by a round fired from the pursuing BMW. The two vehicles eventually separated, and Shed was able to get to a safe location to seek medical attention. Shed was transported from the scene by a Mohave County Deputy to a local hospital where he was treated and released for his injury.

Rodriguez, who was also wounded in the gun battle, drove to a desert area nearby where the BMW became disabled. An AZDPS Ranger helicopter crew was tracking Rodriguez and observed him place a bag in a wash before walking towards the nearby Mohave County Community College campus, where he collapsed prior to reaching the school buildings. Rodriguez was detained without further incident and transported to a hospital for treatment before being booked into jail.

The bag Rodriguez attempted to conceal in the desert was recovered and found to contain $34,504 in cash, over 11 grams of fentanyl, and 10 grams methamphetamine. Additionally, five firearms, including a full-automatic handgun and Uzi were recovered, as well as multiple drug ledgers and additional cash.

On July 19th, a jury found Rodriguez guilty of eleven charges, including:
- Attempted first-degree murder
- Aggravated assault
- Possession of narcotic drugs for sale
- Possession of dangerous drugs for sale
- Unlawful flight
- Money laundering
- Aggravated assault
- Aggravated assault
- Drive by shooting

Man Gets Shot by Police After Trying to interfere in an Arrest and Pointing a Gun at Officers

* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
San Francisco, California — On July 26, 2023, at approximately 2:53 p.m. San Francisco Police Officers who were working in plain clothes were arresting a male suspect at Catalina Street and Fairfax Avenue. During the arrest a second male, identified as 41-year-old Ryant Bluford, unrelated to the arrest, approached and engaged these officers. He approached the scene and lashed out at the officers who were having difficulty arresting a man for an outstanding warrant. Officers asked Bluford to back up after he began demanding that the police release the man. Shortly after, Bluford could be seen on video displaying a gun at his waist and appeared to threaten the officers. Bluford then walked toward two patrol officers, who had just arrived in a marked police vehicle. Their bodycam footage showed them screaming for Bluford to take his hand out of his pants and get on the ground while they aimed their weapons at Bluford.

Suddenly, Bluford raised his left hand to flip off the officers, and in seconds, used his right hand to take the gun out of his pocket and hold it up at the officers. Both officers then shot their weapons, one minute and four seconds after their arrival. Several shots can be heard, and Bluford falls to the ground. There was no indication in the video or the town hall that Bluford shot his gun. After the shooting, the patrol officers walked over to him and began cardio-pulmonary resuscitation as bystanders swarmed the scene and got closer, despite officers telling them to stay back. Officers rendered aid and summoned medics to the scene. Bluford was transported by medics to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite the lifesaving efforts of emergency responders and medical staff, Bluford was declared deceased at the hospital. Bluford had a history of violence. The news site 'Mission Local' reported that Bluford was convicted in the 2006 gang rape of a 16-year-old girl.

LAPD Cop Shoots Woman As She Charges Towards Him With Metal Pipe

* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Los Angeles, California — On July 9, 2023, at around 8:30am, West Valley Division officers responded to multiple radio calls that were generated for an “ADW” (Assault with a Deadly Weapon) suspect that assaulted several victims in the area of Reseda Boulevard and Hatteras Street. The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Jessica Brown, assaulted 4 victims along Reseda Boulevard. Those unsuspecting victims sustained serious head and face injuries, two of which remain hospitalized in stable condition. When officers arrived to the area of the call, they encountered Brown near the parking lot of a gas station at the intersection of Reseda Boulevard and Burbank Boulevard armed with a metal pipe.

As Brown held the pipe and advanced toward the officers, they deployed a taser and 40mm foam baton round and an officer-involved shooting occurred. The metal pipe was determined to be a metal dumbbell bar, approximately 14 inches long. Brown was struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased. Additional investigation has revealed that Brown was a suspect in similar incidents that occurred a day prior to this incident, resulting in four victims. A mother and child were in a parked vehicle when the suspect smashed the windows. Two males were also struck with a similarly described weapon, one in the head causing a cut, and the other in the arm. Both declined medical treatment. No officers were injured during this encounter.

Ligonier Valley Officer Shoots Man Wielding a 14-inch Machete in His Hand

* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Ligonier Township, Pennsylvania — On Sunday, July 2, 2023, at approximately 3:50 p.m., two officers from the Ligonier Valley Police Department were dispatched to an address on Gravel Hill Road in Ligonier Township for the report of a domestic disturbance. As heard on the 911 correspondence, the caller relayed to emergency dispatchers that the man inside the home had a machete and was threatening to kill a woman inside the house. Both officers arrived simultaneously and found two victims outside the residence unharmed. One of the victims told officers, 59-year-old Robbie Saunders, was still inside the house and was believed to have a knife, described as a machete. Both officers approached the front door of the home and attempted to make contact with the man inside, later identified as Saunders.

He could be seen on body camera footage wielding a 14-inch machete in his hand. Saunders approached officers with the machete in his hand and within feet of officers. Ligonier Valley Police verbally ordered Saunders to drop the weapon, but he did not comply. Saunders was simultaneously struck with a stun gun and with a bullet from a police-issued firearm. Both officers rendered aid to Saunders as they waited for medical personnel to arrive to the scene. Saunders was transported to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown where he succumbed to his injuries. Both officers were placed on administrative protocol while county detectives investigated the circumstances of the officer-involved shooting. Westmoreland County District Attorney Nicole W. Ziccarelli reviewed multiple videos from the scene, reports, witness interviews and evidence and has determined the use of deadly force was justified.

Officer's Gun Accidentally Discharges And Hits Suspect During Pursuit

* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
New Orleans, Louisiana — On July 27, 2023, the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) First District officers responded to reported gunfire at the 3900 block of Ulloa Street and discovered the victims, a 30-year-old woman and 41-year-old man, both with gunshot wounds. The female victim was pronounced deceased on scene, while the male victim was transported for treatment of injuries. Using video surveillance camera footage, NOPD officers and detectives viewed the suspects flee the scene in a white GMC Yukon that was later confirmed to have been stolen. A few hours later, officers searching in the 6100 block of Painters Street located the stolen vehicle and two subjects matching a description of the perpetrators. As the officers attempted to conduct a suspicious persons stop on the two subjects, identified as 30-year-old Desmond Henry and 31-year-old Jessie Carter, both suspects fled on foot.

A brief pursuit ensued before both were apprehended. During the apprehension, an officer’s weapon discharged, and Henry sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. While fleeing, Carter made contact with a police vehicle in motion and sustained non-gunshot injuries in the incident. After apprehension, the responding officers immediately rendered First Aid to Henry’s gunshot wound by applying a tourniquet to his leg while waiting for EMS to arrive. Both suspects were transported to a local hospital for treatment, as was an NOPD officer who sustained a knee injury during the incident. The officer was treated and subsequently released. A weapon was recovered in Henry’s possession and additional weapons were also recovered at the scene. While the Public Integrity Bureau’s Force Investigation Team continues its investigation into the firearm discharge, preliminary findings established through a review of the evidence point to the officer’s firearm discharge being unintentional.

Additionally, the contact between Carter and the police vehicle is under investigation by both the NOPD Traffic Division and the Force Investigation Team. Upon release from medical care, Henry was booked with resisting arrest, felon in possession of a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of stolen things. Carter was booked with resisting arrest, illegal possession of stolen things, and placed on a hold for probation violation. Both have also since been charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder in connection with the homicide investigation. Both the officer who discharged his firearm and the driver of the police vehicle that contacted the victim are currently under administrative reassignment. During this incident, the Federal Consent Decree Monitoring Team and the Independent Police Monitor were also on scene and continue to monitor the investigation.

Man Crashes Stolen Pickup Truck After Leading Vidor Police on a Wild Chase

* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Vidor, Texas — On Friday, August 4, 2023, around 1:00 p.m., a man called police saying he had had witnessed a man on a bicycle looking into his truck that was parked at his job on Tram Rd. in Beaumont. The man, 31-year-old Robert Tunnel got into the truck, with trailer attached, and started to drive away. The owner of the truck followed in another vehicle as he began driving eastbound on I-10. Vidor Police, along with Rose City and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department joined in the chase as speeds reached over 90mph. In the Vidor Police dashcam video, Tunnel can be seen swerving across multiple lanes of traffic, nearly causing wrecks with other drivers. As he sped away, fluid from the trailer began flying onto oncoming vehicles.

Law enforcement can be seen throwing down spike strips, only for Tunnel to dodge them with a quick lurch to the far left lane. Eventually, Tunnel lost control of the pickup truck and hit both the left and right side barriers in a two lane section of the highway, ending the chase. Officers with guns drawn and a K-9 unit nearby demanded that Tunnel surrender. Officers then pulled Tunnel out of the truck and put him on the hood of the police cruiser as they placed him in handcuffs. Tunnel was taken to a local hospital to be checked out and then transported to the Orange County Jail. He's facing charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in Jefferson County and evading arrest in a motor vehicle with a previous conviction in Orange County. His bond is on hold due to his other charges.

Bodycam Footage of West Hartford Police Officer Shooting Car Theft Suspect

* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
West Hartford, Connecticut — On August 8, 2023 at approximately 5:00 p.m., West Hartford police were attempting to stop a stolen Hyundai Elantra that was traveling east on New Britain Avenue. At the intersection of New Britain Avenue and South Street, the Hyundai struck a silver BMW and then a blue Honda Pilot. After the collision with the Honda Pilot, the Hyundai became disabled. Two occupants of the vehicle, Lyle Solsbury, and Mike Alexander-Garcia, exited the vehicle. Officers quickly apprehended Solsbury. Alexander-Garcia fled east on New Britain Avenue. He unsuccessfully attempted to carjack two vehicles as he made his way to Town Fair Tire at 980 New Britain Avenue. He entered a Toyota RAV4 in one of the garage service bays.

Moments later, West Hartford K-9 Officer Andrew Teeter entered the garage bay. In an effort to apprehend Alexander-Garcia, Officer Teeter deployed the K-9 into the Toyota and then entered the passenger side of the vehicle. Despite the K-9 and Officer Teeter being in the vehicle struggling with Alexander-Garcia, he backed out of the garage and drove out of the Town Fair Tire parking lot striking two vehicles. One of those vehicles was the K-9 police vehicle. As Alexander-Garcia continued to drive, Officer Teeter discharged his weapon multiple times striking Alexander-Garcia in the torso. The Toyota crashed into a utility pole across the street from Town Fair Tire near the intersection of New Britain Avenue and Shield Street. Alexander-Garcia was taken to Hartford Hospital. He was pronounced dead at 5:53 p.m. Officer Teeter sustained a broken rib and multiple head lacerations. There was no apparent injury to the K-9.

Dashcam Footage Shows Farmington Hills Police Crashing into Fleeing Suspect's Car

* (Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) *
Farmington Hills, Michigan — On Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at approximately 1:00 p.m., an alert was generated from a FLOCK LPR identifying a vehicle with a stolen license plate. Officers responded to the area of the alert and quickly located the vehicle, and confirmed the information obtained from the LPR. The suspect vehicle, a grey 2024 Dodge Durango, upon seeing marked patrol cars moved to block its travel, accelerated and actively attempted to evade them. During the pursuit, the suspect's car crashed into a marked police car that had tried to slow down and stop the vehicle. The crash disabled the police vehicle and damaged and slowed the suspect vehicle.

During the chase, an officer used a PIT maneuver and the suspect vehicle came to a stop in the road. Five suspects fled the vehicle. Officers gave chase on foot arresting one subject immediately. A short time later, officers located a second suspect, who was taken into custody attempting to flee in a secondary vehicle. Three suspects were able to escape on foot and evaded capture. A review of video obtained after officers cleared the area revealed that the one of the suspects was armed with and attempting to conceal a compact assault rifle, as he fled from officers. This suspect was taken into custody, and the rifle was later recovered. Officers located an additional firearm inside the suspects’ vehicle. Three suspects are still at large following the chase.
