105 years ago the Versailles Treaty was signed.
The Polish delegation was composed of the Polish National Committee, mostly from National Democracy. On behalf of Poland, Roman Dmowski and Ignacy Jan Paderewski signed the treaty. It was the culmination of struggles to regain Poland.
Roman Dmowski correctly predicted the course of the war and chose the right side of the conflict. Józef Piłsudski allied himself with the Central Powers, which lost the war.
Thanks to Dmowski's efforts, in 1917 France agreed to establish the Polish Army, the so-called The Blue Army, which played an important role in consolidating Polish independence and state borders.
During the meetings in Paris and Versailles, Roman Dmowski became famous as a great orator, an erudite polyglot who was able to deliver a speech lasting several hours while translating it himself into English and French.
