It's also interesting to note how the Ukrainians, in the southeastern part of the country, mostly prioritized east-west defenses rather than north-south.
That is, they're betting on a possible loss of wide areas near the current frontline but not letting Russian forces anywhere near the deeper parts of the country, for example, the area between Zaporizhzhia and Pavlohrad.
In general, the Zaporizhzhia-Vilniansk-Novomykolaivka-Vasylkivka-Pavlohrad defensive border was formed.
That is, they're betting on a possible loss of wide areas near the current frontline but not letting Russian forces anywhere near the deeper parts of the country, for example, the area between Zaporizhzhia and Pavlohrad.
