( How To Server Client Works! )
- in Online Games
I assume you are talking about multiplayer games, where anti-cheat measures are important (who cares whether someone cheats for singleplayer).
A few anti cheat techniques:
- server is authoritative. Client (player) modifies its position to skip a wall? Busted! Server doesnt allow you! So the client is only fooling himself (and the others see him at his original position)
- client has bullets that can go through walls? Busted! Server doesnt allow that to happen and the client only fools himself.
- client makes walls transparant to see other players behind the wall? Ouch tough one: server would not send the positions (of the players behind the wall) from the viewpoint of the client.
Etcetera etc!
Remember: the server should always be the authoritative one! At the end, it would be better to run simulations like physics on both client and server. Client sends actions and the server sends the state to all players based on the actions.
