Btw! Summer piece! I have been eating an exorbitant amount of ice cream lately and longing for a pool.

Did some new stuff with this piece if it looks a lil different. I mirrored the plants and concrete in the background. While that made a more full background for less work it feels ... Less organic? Which I don't love.

Tried using some tutorials for the water I've been holding on to, and used my "will o-wisp" brush for sunbeams! I also had a ton of fun figuring out the reflections for the pool toys. (Semi transparent linear fwiw)

This year has really been about upping my background game, I think it's gone well! I'm hoping someone gets the beach baby ych so I can directly show that growth side by side.

If anyone has good tutorials on pool toy seams please send them my way.

Edit: this is not my usual "use the regression ray" kind of post on a normie for the duration of an art piece, they are now smol bab!!! A new babyfur! For both of the components of that word! Wowie!

At hospital. Dad fell. Waiting to find out if he needs a catscan, x-ray might have not given enough detail to tell if his hip is broken. Phone doodle. Crappy stylus. Trying to keep self focused while we wait.

Update: he fractured his hip and is being admitted. It is 7 am local time, we spent 9? 10? Hours? So now I'm going to pass out goodnight.

Update: surgery tomorrow

Lots of you asking for updates, thank you so much for your compassion and concern. They have ultimately decided against surgery due to his risk factors, which is a silver lining.

Recovery will be hard, 2 months probably before he can even think about walking more than whatever they have him do in rehab, and up to a year for a new baseline. He will probably need to use a walker long term.

They'll probably keep him in the hospital a week or so. We need to see about renting home medical equipment and getting a home nurse to help with things like bathroom ambulation, bathing, etc. until he has healed more.

He's got a long journey ahead of him, but my dad is the strongest man I've ever known.

TW: medical trauma, talk of addiction and needles, near death experiences

He was a 2nd generation immigrant physician living in a sort of impoverished city of with its own "little Poland." I remember growing up and some babcia paying for her care with babka. I had asked why, I was maybe 6, and he said that's what she could afford. So, we grew up in a different economic status than what people traditionally think of medical families. But we had a community and that was everything.

He ran his own methadone clinic because he was an early adopter of acknowledging addiction as a disease and those with addiction as victims of the disease. Sadly, he at one point got stabbed with a dirty needle from a patient who had a mental breakdown. He contracted what at the time was called "hepatitis non a, non b." Hep C. This would change everything.

I won't get into the details, but the man fought like hell. In and out of hospitals and comas as the disease progressed, survived maybe a dozen codes in a 3 year span. He ultimately received a transplant, though developed a severe pneumonia and was in a coma 6+ months. He came too, and damn the man fought to recover. And he did!

A number of years later they discovered a cure for hep C. He signed up to be an experimental patient and the disease was eradicated. Some 5 or so years after that, Harvoni was approved to the general populace.

My mother developed early onset dementia and that dominated our lives. My father later developed Parkinson's which he has been fighting like hell for the past 15 years. It is enduced by his immunosupressants for his liver transplant since they are literally a neurotoxin.

The man is a man of compassion. I worked as a healthcare data scientist in that city for about 6 years until this past August. People would hear my last name and ask if I was Doc's kid. They all had stories about their parents or grandparents, dad saving their lives or giving free care or just impacting their lives as this beacon of hospitality or hope.

He has always been my biggest supporter, going with anime cons with me as a little kid. He has always been pro my furry hobby, celebrating my art and encouraging me to go to cons. He actually sees most of my babyfur art before I post it! He likes my regular furry art more cuz it's cool, mom was obsessed with the babs cuz they're cute lol. He called me by my fursona name through middleschool per my request, no hesitation. I was cringe but he embraced it lol.

He's just always been so supportive of my hobbies and interest

I hope he recovers well. The way he cared for me as a very sickly child (I think decades of medical trauma are why I trauma regress, I was in and out of hospitals from birth through college) I now care for him. Even if this means no cons or vacation for the duration of his life, that feels like a fair trade to give back to my best friend and biggest advocate outside of Teldra.
