Earlier this year, I broke the news that Google is bringing back lock screen widget support in Android 15.
I now have more information: This feature is aimed at tablets, like the Pixel Tablet, and not phones.

LineageOS 21 based on Android 14 QPR2 but with a catch

The good news is you will be getting updates from LineageOS once again starting from today. Now to the not so good one, the streak didn't last long, due to some devastating changes done by Google to the Android 14 QPR2 branch, the development got halted for nearly a month but came back with some losses.
LineageOS was pretty much the only ROM out there to support every Pixel in the lineup back when 21 announced, and going forward with QPR2, they had to unfortunately drop off Pixel 3a and earlier devices, alongside 35 devices from other manufacturers.

Tensor G4 set to receive a new modem and satellite connectivity

Google's upcoming devices will receive satellite connectivity, with Android 15 bringing support for it.
Using the "Satellite Gateway" app users can text emergency contacts and receive emergency communication by messages after answering a questionnaire.
To support satellite communication, Tensor G4 will also receive the Samsung Modem 5400 which will improve stability, power efficiency and speed which are issues within previous Tensor modems.
The modem will be included in all cellular Tensor G4 devices, including Pixel 9 series, next-gen Pixel Fold and a 5G enabled tablet codenamed "clementine."

The next Pixel Fold will be named Pixel 9 Pro Fold

According to a source from Android Authority, the 2024 lineup of Pixels will be as followed:
- Pixel 9 – codename “tokay”
- Pixel 9 Pro – codename “caiman”
- Pixel 9 Pro XL – codename “komodo”
- Pixel 9 Pro Fold – codename “comet”
This matches the lineup that was leaked in late 2022 and the names are confirmed in some of the software.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold name is not final, but it has been changed to that recently.
It seems like Google wants to integrate the folding device into the flagship model naming instead of making separate line as the original Fold was treated as a niche and overpriced device.
The potential name may hint that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will debut with other Pixel 9 devices in October instead of Google I/O in May.

The Pixel Watch may soon add support for syncing app permissions from your phone!
Back in October, I discovered a new "sync permissions" setting in Android 14 QPR1 Beta 2 that gives your connected Wear OS smartwatch the same app permissions you allowed on your phone.
Today, Nail Sadykov discovered that the Pixel Watch companion app is preparing to add support for this. After flipping a flag, a new 'device details' item appears in the companion app that says "remove watch, sync permissions, share contacts".
Tapping on this opens Android's Bluetooth device details page for your connected Pixel Watch, surfacing the "sync permissions from phone" menu item I previously discovered.

Android is finally preparing to support NFC wireless charging!
NFC charging is slower than Qi charging, but it needs much less space. USI 2.0 styluses already support NFC charging, and hopefully future tracker tags do too!

Android 15 Beta 1.1 is rolling out now with a fix for NFC! Contactless payments and other features that rely on NFC should now work. The update does NOT revert the NFC Mainline changes that I mentioned previously, but it fixes the botched migration.

Google now offers "Warranty Helper" to check your warranty policy easily
Earlier, users had to manually enter the device’s serial number or IMEI. But now, instead of having to know it by looking physically on the device, finding the packaging, or diving into Settings, Google will automatically list the devices associated with your Google Account.
Once you confirm your email address with the Warranty Helper, you can easily select the specific Pixel device you want to check the warranty status for. You'll see details like the warranty start and expiration dates, along with the return policy.
