Cast volume controls is fixed with January security patch for Pixel devices
Mishaal Rahman
Apparently cast volume controls is now working normally with the January update for Pixel devices, according to Mishaal Rahman.
Earlier Google said they have disabled cast volume controls due to a legal issue, which is later confirmed due to Sonos lawsuit. In the first beta of Android 12L, it kind of return back but only halfway, you can't control it with the volume keys yet. With the January update that is just rolled out yesterday, Google has finally restored the default behaviour.
The relevant patch for the cast volume controls can be found here. Google has probably found some other way to bypass the lawsuit, but no one is sure for now.

YouTube let you sign in with a easier way and play video repeatedly on your TV
Android Police (2)
It's great that you can stream YouTube videos on your TV for a better viewing experience, but you probably know the inconvenience of controlling it. It's a little tough to sign in on your TV, and also you can't loop videos, but things are about to change.
Kind of something similar to what Google announced in CES 2022, you can use your phone to quickly setup your Chromebook, now you can use your phone to sign in YouTube on your TV. You no longer need to use the on-screen keyboard to manually type in sign-in information which is a pain.
Also in the news, YouTube have finally added a repeat option so the video can be played repeatedly on your TV. The option has been available since last year for mobile and desktop users, but now TV users will be able to enjoy the feature. The feature is slowly rolling out to all users soon.

YouTube Music upcoming Wear OS Tile will show your recently played music playlist
9To5Google
Google is preparing a Wear OS Tile for YouTube Music, which you can then jump back into your favourite playlist quickly from the home screen of your watch.
The preview of the tile is given the name "Recently played." From the image provided, we can see that the tile is giving users a quick shortcut to let them play their recent playlist or album. There a "Browse" button which will probably give you access to choose a song to play in the playlist.
There another preview image of the tile, which is going to be the Tile’s “background,” according to 9To5Google. The tile isn't going live yet for anyone, but it has been prepared and hidden under the app version 4.59.

Chrome OS 97 comes with updated Gallery app and improved fullscreen magnifier tool
9To5Google
Chrome OS 97 is released and here's a look of what's new in it.
On earlier version, opening any audio files in the File apps will play it in a small window of the dedicated client. With Chrome OS 97, the Gallery app will be responsible for opening these audio files. Besides that, it also added "Now playing" queue. 10-second rewind/skip and playback speed controls are also being added, the scrubber is also slightly larger.
Another update to the Gallery app is that you can open multiple windows of it at the same time. Meanwhile the accessibility tool "fullscreen magnifier" has added an option to let users move continuously with their mouse. The Autofill dropdown has been slightly tweaked with the box moving slightly right with icons on the left side.

Google Pixel Fold benchmark score reveals it will come with Google Tensor and 12GB RAM
MySmartPrice
It is reported earlier that Google cancelled making it. Just recently, a benchmark score surfaced on the web and it appeared to be the unannounced Pixel foldable.
A few months ago, 9To5Google did a teardown to the Camera app and found out that the foldable by Google is given the codename "Pipit." The benchmark score image shows the same codename, which seems to be the foldable that is long-rumored.
The benchmark listing shows it is featuring an octa-core processor, with a base frequency of 1.8GHz. If we take a look at Pixel 6 Tensor SoC, we can see that it has four efficiency cores clocked at 1.8GHz and an octa-core design, hinting the foldable could have the same Tensor processor too. It also shows us that the device will come with 12GB RAM.
So far, this is some of the info we got. Google is indeed working on a foldable phone. It could come with Android 12L preinstalled when it launched.

Gmail just got 10 billion downloads record in Play Store
After nearly one month and a few days later, finally another app cross Play Store's 10 billion downloads milestone, and as I expected earlier, it's Gmail.
It easily the next app to cross this milestone since majority of OEMs preinstalled it in their phones. It is the seventh app to ever reach this big milestone if you are wondering, the previous app that cross the milestone is Chrome.
Which app is going to be the next? Well, I bet it will be Drive, once again wish me luck, we will check back at a later date.

A message from Google to Apple, stop the message bullying

Talking about iMessage and Android, you might know that when someone sent out a message from Android to iOS users, they will receive a green bubble instead of the default blue, which means they are receiving it via SMS. Just recently, Google once again stand out to response and wanted to unify the messaging experience between the two platform.
Android official Twitter account posted out a tweet saying that "iMessage should not benefit from bullying. Google's Senior Vice President Hiroshi Lockheimer also tweeted out with a reaction to a Wall Street Journal article on the iPhone’s dominance among teens.
A few months ago, he also has already starting to push out the message. This time they manage to capture more attention. iMessage is one of the most used messaging service in US. For other countries, this type of "bully" rarely exist, but still, it will be nice to see Google and Apple can unified the messaging experience.
