Google issued statement about Pixel phones receiving extra Android 12 update prompt
9To5Google | Previous post

A few hours ago, many Pixel owners noticed that they are receiving another Android 12 update, despite they have already update to the latest November security patch.

Google has issued a statement regarding the update on Reddit: "We’re sorry for the alert you received. Not to worry, we’ve resolved this issue and you can disregard it."

9To5Google also reported that the company told them that people who have updated should have "no" impact, a future software update will revert back to the correct carrier build.

*By the way, this literally solved a myth, is that carrier or unlocked model build can be sideload on any variant of the Pixel phone. Anyway, better to just use the appropriate build for your device to avoid any issue from happening.

Chrome OS virtual keyboard getting dark mode, Unicode 14 emoji and Linux apps support
9To5Google

Chrome OS is getting some neat addition, virtual keyboard is getting dark mode, emoji additions from Unicode 14, and connecting virtual keyboards to Linux apps.

There a flag which enable dark mode for virtual keyboard: chrome://flags/#enable-cros-ime-dark-mode. The flag is just added and currently it not working. Chrome OS will also be getting latest emoji from Unicode 14, according to a recent code change. It is already live in Canary version 98 build, so expect the new emoji to arrive on stable channel in February 2022.

Also Google is experimenting to connect Chrome OS virtual keyboard to Linux apps, as two flags suggested it: Crostini IME support (chrome://flags/#crostini-ime-support) & Crostini Virtual Keyboard Support (chrome://flags/#crostini-virtual-keyboard-support). The feature isn't working as it is still under development behind the scene.

Overall, Chrome OS virtual keyboard is set to gain some improvements from Google. We will see all these features arriving to everyone sometimes next year I guess.

Google Tensor could have make it appearance with the Pixel 5
XDA Developers

Google Tensor first debut with the Pixel 6 series, but a recent finding suggested that Google may have started testing it on the Pixel 5.

XDA Recognized Developer Freak07 found out that the company once tested a Pixel 5 powered with Google Tensor. Digging through the Pixel 6 source, he saw the kernel device tree files for two variants of the Tensor chip, internally referred to as gs101-b0 and gs101-a0. Pixel 6 is using gs101-b0 variant, and gs101-a0 seems relative new to us.

Apparently, gs101-a0 is linked to a Pixel device codenamed Whitefin, and this device is identical to Pixel 5 in specifications, but it powered by the Tensor SoC, according to Mishaal Rahman.

Pixel 6 getting early access to camera-powered heart rate, respiratory tracking on Google Fit
9To5Google

UPDATE: Widely rolling out for Pixel 6 owners.

The feature actually has rolled out to other Pixels back in March, but the Pixel 6 is lacking the feature at launch. It due to the main camera lens and flash are separated far apart, hence Google can't use the classic way to boost the lightning and measure heart rate. On older Pixels, it will suggest you to turn on the flash, but the Pixel 6 doesn't and also doesn't have the flashlight button.

9To5Google pointed out that the feature was accurate and matched Pixel 5 results in their testing under a "well-lit area." In place where its dark, the reading goes down by 30 beats per minute. It not completely optimised yet, as there are still some error here and there.

The feature is gradually rolling out via server side, once roll out you will see two new cards under Home tab or in Browse > Vitals.

Pixel Superfans are getting exclusive merch from Google
r/GooglePixel

If you are part of the Pixel Superfans program, you may get a chance to receive Google's exclusive merch. As posted by someone on Reddit, Google is sending out a Superfan appreciation card, Pixel 6 Pro (Material You) themed socks and a Google Tensor sticker.

On the appreciation card, it written to thank people who joined in the Pixel Superfans program. There also a pair Material You themed pattern socks with a tag written Google Pixel 6 Pro. Another side of the socks has written Google Pixel 6 Pro wording onto it. Lastly, there a Google Tensor sticker, though in reality it doesn't look like that.

It can be a nice souvenir from Google even if you don't really use it. United States is entering winter season, and sending out socks seem to be a great gift. Google stated on the socks label that "one size fits most," which they mean it could be wear on variable foot size, but I guess it only for the adults anyway.

JerryRigEverything released Pixel 6 Pro teardown video, and hinted it the easiest screen repair for a 2021 device
YouTube Video | Previous post

The Pixel 6 Pro now entered teardown phase in JerryRigEverything video. He said the phone display is easily repairable, anyway he gone through the whole process of disassembling the phone and here how it goes.

First, he loosen the adhesive of the phone and open up the screen, then unscrew the ribbon and the screen is taken apart. Next, he shows the internal part inside the phone. He shows the little bracket that hold the charging port has a water damage indicator. Then he suggested that the metal mid plate make the phone structure much stronger, and there a smaller one on the top the battery.

After that, he decided to remove the battery. He saw that the battery has a plastic pull strip but that thing is simply not enough strong to pull it out, so he just drip isopropyl alcohol to dissolve the adhesive, so it will be easier to remove. He continued by showing the camera module, which is huge in size. He explains that the 50MP camera has OIS, the 12MP ultrawide don't, and the 48MP telephoto has internal optical stabilisation.

Later, he shows rest of the part of the phone like 5G antenna, motherboard which has front facing camera and USB-C port attached, and lastly the wireless charging coil. At last, he was able to get the phone work once again.

By the way, someone has released Pixel 6 Pro teardown video earlier and we have written all the details about it. For more info, check out the post over here. If you do get your display replaced, you can get your fingerprint back to work by using the fingerprint calibration tool.
