Google Pixel 3a being added into Android 12L Beta Program
Previous post

I can feel Google somehow is ready to abandon Pixel 3a but they just realise it is under 3 years guaranteed software update support, so at last they corrected the Android 12L Beta program device list to include them.

By the way, you may wonder where the Pixel 4 XL go. Someone at Google who control the site probably forgot that Pixel 4 XL exist (lol). Anyway, the same mistake is made in Android 11 release page, with the supported device model not showing the device too.

Anyway, Pixel 3a & later Pixel devices will get the Android 12L update, good luck. Also just updated the Android 12L highlights post we have.

If you want to have a unique New Tab page in your browser from the others, you can use extensions to customise it and make it useful for you. And well, you can finally create your own extensions which can customise your Chrome's New Tab.

New Tab extensions can be used to “share images, text, links or GIFs that inspire, educate or inform.” The Tab Maker tool provides 11 template styles which can be customised. You can manage and update it via a determined Google Sheet. All the full instructions and details are over here.

If you are really into customising your New Tab further, then probably start trying out to develop your very own unique design with the Tab Maker tool. (9To5Google)

YouTube allows you to view video description and chapters directly from full screen
Previous post

YouTube mobile app seems to be getting more changes in full screen mode experience. Before that, you can open up video description and enter full screen to continue viewing it (link above), and now you can open it directly from full screen mode.

Tap on the screen, then tap on the video title will popup a box showing video description and chapters if available at the right side of the screen. Also worth mentioning that the video title is also using YouTube Sans now. You can close the box by presing "X" or dragging it down.

The feature is rolling out via server side. If you haven't got it with a recent version, you will need to wait patiently for it. (Android Police)

Google Drive testing search chip like Gmail to better filter search results
Searching for file will soon be easier as searching for email. Google is launching search chips in beta for Drive to help you find out your files faster.

After typing the keywords you want to search for, your can use different multiple chips to refine the results. Three are the filter chips that are available: File type, People, Location, Last modified and Tasks, Shared Drive labels, File titles only. It unclear whether the feature will reach on the mobile app or not.

The feature is available for Google Workspace tier accounts, but you will need to apply to the beta program by filling up this form in order to get the feature. (Google Workspace Updates)

Google Maps reach 10 billion downloads
When you go for travelling, when you went to a place you are strange to, you probably just took out your phone and check where are you at. And yup, it Google Maps.

Being one of the most used services by the majority, it not strange to see it reach 10 billion downloads. It the third app to reach the milestone, behind Google Play Services and YouTube.

The app also come with most Android devices with GMS services. To be honest, you won't really find other map apps being pre-installed. It also a great tool to discover places, so when you feel bored, just open it and find more places around the world. Anyway, hope Google Maps make your life easier. (Android Police)

Google Play to allow other billing payment method in South Korea
A few months ago, South Korea pass over a document to the law stating that app stores aren't allow to use their own billing system. Today, Google has decided to allow it in order to comply with the law in the country.

Developers can add an alternate payment method in the billing system, but they are required to keep Google Play billing system. Also there will be a cut from the alternate billing method, which Google will take 11% of the revenue from them.

Google also warned that “alternative billing systems may not offer the same protections or payment options and features of Google Play’s billing system.” Some stuff like subscription management, Google Play gift cards, Play Points won't be available with alternate billing method. (9To5Google)
