....inspired by something I saw a couple of days ago....
The Humble Honesty Box.
In my opinion this countryside staple signals the peak of a civilised society, where any passing stranger can be trusted to take what they need and leave the appropriate monies behind in a fair and honest trade....there are no CCTV cameras to monitor these boxes, no need to register online to get a verification code to open the box....nothing but trust between strangers....
This is only possible in a high trust society, and sadly, we seem to be losing the trust in large parts of the country (towns and cities), but fortunately, where I live these little tests of honesty are prolific and it makes me very happy to live in such a high trust environment....this is life today in rural England.
Long live the humble Honesty Box. 💚

HAPPY NEW YEAR FOLKS. 🔥
As we wake up to another rainy day, our land is drenched, soaked, sodden and muddy. Living off grid, there's a stark contrast with environment. You go from inside, straight to outside muddy swamp, when the weather is like this. When people think about off grid life, they often think about everything that you need ( or don't need ) , for housing needs, shelter, heating, water, etc ,etc . It's a big long list of essentials to make living as comfortable as possible.. however, there's something, this morning that I've thought about, that rarely gets talked about, yet is really important.. footwear... The obvious footwear that comes to mind for most people, to keep their feet dry, is wellies. Imo, when you live off grid and constantly going from outside to inside, often quickly, doing your chores, wellies, simply, are a pain in the arse ,as they're too hard to get on and off easily . Also, boots with lace ups are a pain, because, you don't want to faff around with lacing up boots every time you fetch water or go to the loo... So .. WHAT DO WE WEAR ON OUR FEET?. . Boots that have a really good grip, boots that are waterproof, and importantly, boots that can be put on and off easily ( without using your hands) with wide tops , or sides that unzip . I find that muck/ snow boots are great for living in a swamp. I'll post a picture of my everyday boots for around camp , underneath.. I hope this information is useful to anyone who is aspiring, thinking, or going off grid, this coming year

My boots for ' the mud life' . 😁
I was lucky, I found these in a charity shop , in my size, unused, for a fiver! They are usually not expensive brand new though.

....built a simple lean to bike shed today, off the back of daughters storage shed....paneled with some old wardrobe sides and some pallet wood, covered with some very tatty corrugated panels left over from another shed project....weather was a bit damp so I didn't take many photos....
