Support Housing Encampments

Yesterday, those staying at the housing encampments survived the city's third attempt at an eviction. They have now passed the final deadline for dispersion and suspect that the city will send in police at any time to try to take down the camps. The organizers are calling for support. Here are a few ways to help:

Show up. They need to keep a strong presence at the camps to discourage the city from entering. There are two camps. Camp JTD located at 22nd & Ben Franklin Blvd. Camp Teddy located at Ridge Ave. & Jefferson St.

Call, email and tweet Mayor Kenney and Acting Managing Director Tumar Alexander and demand they #StopTheSweeps. Mayor Kenney - james.kenney@phila.gov, 215-686-2181, @phillymayor. Tumar Alexander - tumar.alexander@phila.gov, 215-686-3480.

Bring Supplies. This includes food, tents, bedding, medical supplies, hygiene needs, and art supplies. Check the camp's social medias for their current supply requests.

Donate. You can venmo Camp JTD @domimc.

Stay up to date on what's going on and how to help by following Camp JTD and Camp Teddy on social media. Instagram: @campjtd. Twitter: @PhlHousing and @CampJTD. Additional information on their website.
#FreeOurYouth Town Hall

Six months into the COVID-19 crisis, there are still over 100 young people held in detention in Philadelphia, at youth detention centers or in adult jails. This Wednesday at 6pm, join youth organizers for a virtual town hall, where they will speak about the urgent need to bring young people home during this pandemic and beyond. Hear from currently and formerly incarcerated young people, their families, and communities members, and stand with them as they call on the city to #FreeOurYouth. Register here.
