📊 Teens’ Favourite Social Platform: Snapchat vs Instagram
#Snapchat has reigned supreme as teens’ favorite social platform for a couple of years now, according to Piper Jaffray’s semi-annual teen surveys. But Snapchat’s rise may be cooling off, and #Instagram may be seeing renewed interest from teens, latest results show.
Asked their favourite #SocialMedia platform, 46% of the 8,600 teens surveyed (almost half) cited Snapchat. That was squarely in the range set in the past 2 surveys.
What’s different about this latest edition of the survey is the uptick in popularity for Instagram. 32% reported that Instagram is their favourite platform, up from 26% in the previous survey, and reaching the highest level in at least 3 years.
Interestingly, Instagram’s rising influence isn’t coming at the expense of Snapchat, but rather #Facebook and #Twitter. For example, just 5% of teens named Facebook their favorite social media platform, down from 8% in the previous survey. And Twitter didn’t fare much better, with its 6% share of the vote being down from 9% in the previous study.

Since Mark Zuckerberg co-created #Facebook in his Harvard dorm room in 2005, the social network has grown into a huge global company employing 25,000 people. Facebook is still growing and this week it announced that it is expanding its investment in Ireland, enabling it to grow its workforce by 5,000. The company already employees 4,000 people across the country.

According to a survey conducted by research firm Strategy Analytics in July and August 2018, the e-commerce giant accounted for 63% of the U.S. installed base at the time, beating Google (17%) and Apple (4%) by quite a margin.
Amazon had started the smart speaker craze in November 2014 with the release of the first Amazon Echo. The Consumer Technology Association expects smart speaker sales to amount to $3.2 billion in the U.S. this year, up 64% over the 2017 total.
