Over the past decade, #Podcasts have seen a steady rise in popularity. According to Edison Research, 64% of Americans are now familiar with the term โ€œpodcastingโ€ and more than 4 in 10 have listened to a podcast themselves.

The formatโ€™s rise in popularity clearly coincides with a general increase in digital media consumption, specifically on mobile devices. Also, #Podcast is the only format users can consume passively.

Itโ€™s the era of internet #advertising. The era of targeting that tracks you across browsers, platforms and across the city. The era of apps that know what you want before you do.

But surprisingly, a seemingly retro ad format โ€” outdoor advertising โ€” is also having its heyday.

Ads on billboards, buses and at venues like baseball stadiums are expected to see record spending this year. Worldwide ad spend on so-called โ€œout-of-homeโ€ advertising is expected to reach $38 billion this year, up 3 percent since last year and 35 percent since 2010, according to data from ad measurement company Zenith.

This week, #YouTube announced a new type of in-stream ad format, positioned as a new way for โ€œadvertisers to connect with their audienceโ€ by allowing viewers to move beyond mere click-through interactions and onto more complex transactions, like downloading an app or buying a movie ticket.

According to Verto data gathered over the past year, men and Millennials spend the most time watching ads on YouTubeโ€™s mobile app.

Men spend an average of 6 minutes per month watching ads on the app, compared to just under 4 minutes per month among women (and an average of just under 5 minutes per month for all users).

Younger #Millennials (18-24) rack up an average of 9 minutes per month watching ads on the YouTube mobile app, which is nearly double the amount of time that older Millennials (25-34) spend with ads on the YouTube app.

โ€‹โ€‹๐Ÿš– Half Uber Drivers Don't Make More $10 an Hour After Vehicle Expenses

According to a new study by Ridester, the median hourly pay with tip for #Uber drivers in the U.S. is $14.73. That figure includes tips but doesnโ€™t account for expenses like insurance, gas and car depreciation incurred while working. Using Ridesterโ€™s low-end estimate of $5 per hour in vehicle costs, drivers would bring in $9.73 per hour and potentially much less.

That implies a driver working 40 hours per week would make an annual salary of almost $31,000 before vehicle expenses, and about $20,000 after expenses (but still before taxes). Thatโ€™s below the poverty threshold for a family of three. Itโ€™s also a far cry from the $70,000 to $90,000 Uber once claimed its drivers made in major markets.

According to Sensor Tower, in just under seven months since launching as an invite-only beta on March 15, the iOS version of #Fortnite from Epic Games has grossed a total of $300 million worldwide, with about 65% of that coming from players in the United States ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ.

To have some context, Fortnite has grossed about 32% more than Supercellโ€™s Clash Royale launch in March 2016, and more than 200% as much as #Tencentโ€™s smash MOBA Honor of Kings managed on Chinaโ€™s App Store in the same amount of time post-release.

As for the fastest game to hit $300 million on #iOS, that was Nianticโ€™s mega-hit #PokemonGO, which achieved this feat in just 113 days.

According to a forecast from Zenith, the global #advertising market is expected to expand by 4.5% this year and then by 4.2% in both 2019 and 2020.

Driving growth will be #SocialMedia advertising, predicted to rise by 16% annually from 2017 through 2020, and search, with a forecast annual growth rate of 8% through that period.

The #Internet's history goes back some decades by now โ€“ #Email has been around since the 1960s, file sharing since at least the 1970s, and TCP/IP was standardized in 1982. But it was the creation of the world wide web (www) in 1989 that revolutionised our history of communication. The inventor of the world wide web was the English scientist Tim Berners-Lee who created a system to share information through a network of computers. At the time he was working for the European physics laboratory CERN in the Swiss Alps.

With #FacebookPortal, you canโ€™t watch #YouTube; thereโ€™s no web browser; #WhatsApp and #Instagram are nowhere to be found; and you canโ€™t send or receive normal Facebook messages, even if theyโ€™re video recordings. If you buy the Portal, you have to really want to video chat with other people on Facebook, and do so from one room in your home, on something other than the phone or laptop or tablet that you likely already have. With all the privacy issues surrounding Facebook, Portal seems like a stupidly brave bet from them.
