โ€‹โ€‹๐Ÿง  Mental Health: The Impact of Social Media on Young People

Is the end of the "like" coming? According to TechCrunch, based on the findings of researcher Jane Manchun Wong, #Facebook is currently carrying out tests to reveal only a limited number of likes on a post. The social networking giant is currently conducting the same type of experiment in seven countries on its Instagram app.

What is the reason for this? To reduce the feeling of permanent competition and social pressure. As recent research has shown, this decision could be particularly beneficial for the #MentalHealth of young people. Based on the results of a survey of 1,479 people aged 14 to 24 years by the UK's Royal Society for Public Health, the top 5 social networks have been ranked according to their impact on mental health.

It emerges that #Instagram is the social media platform with the most negative effect on the psychological state of young people. On the other side, #YouTube is considered to be the most positive network in this area and the only one in the research considered to have a 'net positive' influence. To establish this ranking, 14 factors were taken into account such as anxiety, depression, loneliness, self-image, harassment, and the opportunity to express oneself.

๐Ÿ“บ Video Streaming Stats from Nielsen

A new age of media is upon us. As a number of powerful media companies enter the streaming video marketplace in a very big way, choice in this promising arena has never been greater.

The Nielsen report notes that 60% of Americans subscribe to more than one paid #VideoStreaming service. Better stillโ€”especially for platforms entering the streaming marketโ€”is that 93% of U.S. consumers say they will either increase or keep their existing streaming services.

โ€‹โ€‹๐Ÿ“บ Lockdown: a Push from Audio to Video

We're still in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, and it's difficult to fully grasp all its effects on how we're living our lives. We're still getting used to many changes we never expected to experience.

One takeaway from the current situation and the accompanying lockdown has been that, apparently, when we have to stay at home, we tend to move from listening to watching.

The big picture: A big chunk of audio consumption happens during daily commute where it's not possible โ€” nor advisable โ€” to look at screens. Of course, the lockdown has lifted this limitation and freed up the bandwidth we need to consume more videos by killing off the daily commute.

More details: According to Channel Factory, a global technology platform and official #YouTube partner, in April, consumers were heading to YouTube for "uplifting" content, and that usually meant music videos โ€” or #TikTok and prank videos!
These downward revisions are happening where, for the last several years, digital audio consumption was experiencing steady growth.

On a personal level: My digital audio consumption habits have changed, but not precisely in this way. I have less time to listen to podcasts because that has been part of my daily commute routine.
However, since I have more time for my writing โ€” and exercising โ€” I do listen to more music on the background because I don't have to pay active attention to it.
I'm not the biggest fan of music video watching, so I can't comment on that part of the research.

โ€‹โ€‹๐Ÿ” Worldโ€™s 10 Most Valuable Brands in 2020

For the eighth year running, #Apple is at the top of the list of most valuable brands in the world, keeping its lead over top companies like #Amazon, #Microsoft and #Google, according to Interbrandโ€™s latest annual rankings. Although there has been some shifting around in positions, all of the brands in the top 10 last year remained there this year.

Of the 43% of brands that benefited from a lift in value this year, #Amazon (60%) and #Microsoft (53%) were the fastest risers. #Spotify also had a significant increase, up 52% to $8.4 billion (#70).

Other fast-risers this year include:
- #Netflix: +41% to $12.7 billion (#41);
- #Adobe: +41% to $18.2 billion (#27);
- #PayPal: +38% to $10.5 billion (#60);
- #Apple: +38% to $323 billion (#1); and
- #Salesforce: +34% to $10.8 billion (#58).

This year, five brands dropped off the top 100 list, making room for five new entrants. One of those new entrants is #Instagram, which makes its debut to the list at #19 with a brand value of $26.1 billion. #YouTube (#30) joins Instagram on the list of new entrants with a brand value of $17.3 billion. Both of these brands are also favorites among social media marketers.

The remaining three new entrants are:

- #Tesla (#40; $12.8 billion);
- #JohnnieWalker (#98; $4.6 billion); and
- #Zoom (#100; $4.5 billion)

โ€‹โ€‹๐Ÿ—ž News Use Across Social Media Platforms in 2020

As #SocialMedia companies struggle to deal with misleading information on their platforms about the #USElection, the #COVID19 pandemic and more, a large portion of Americans continue to rely on these sites for news. About half of US adults (53%) say they get news from social media โ€œoftenโ€ or โ€œsometimes,โ€ and this use is spread out across a number of different sites, according to a Pew Research Center survey.

Among 11 social media sites asked about as a regular source of news, #Facebook sits at the top, with about a third (36%) of Americans getting news there regularly. #YouTube comes next, with 23% of US adults regularly getting news there. #Twitter serves as a regular news source for 15% of US adults.

Other social media sites are less likely to be regular news sources. About one-in-ten Americans or fewer report regularly getting news on #Instagram (11%), #Reddit (6%), #Snapchat (4%), #LinkedIn (4%), #TikTok (3%), #WhatsApp (3%), #Tumblr (1%) and #Twitch (1%).

These lower percentages for news use are in some cases related to the fact that fewer Americans report using them at all, compared with the shares who use Facebook and YouTube.
