ββπ Texting is Now Teensβ Favorite Way to Communicate With Friends
Itβs no surprise that teens today are heavier #SocialMedia users than they used to be: 70% report using social media multiple times a day, about twice the proportion (34%) from 2012.
However that doesnβt mean that social media is their preferred way of communicating with friends. Asked to choose between texting, in-person, social media, video-chatting, and talking on the phone, a leading 35% of the more than 1,000 13-17-year-olds surveyed said that texting is their favorite way to communicate with friends. Thatβs up slightly from 33% who felt that way in 2012.

ββπ Attention Spans: More Selective, Not Shorter
Preziβs State of Attention report suggests that our attention spans are becoming more selective, not shorter, highlighting the importance of relevant and personalised content marketing.
A survey of 2,008 full time office workers, found that attention spans have actually increased.
Six out of ten respondents say they can give a piece of content their undivided attention without getting distracted, more than they could one year ago. Meanwhile, 42% say theyβve become more selective about the content they consume.

ββπΆ Music Industry Streaming Revenues
Revenues from streaming #Music grew 28% YoY to $3.4 billion for the first half of 2018.
This broad category includes revenues from subscription services (such as paid versions of #Spotify, #AppleMusic, #Amazon, #TIDAL, and others), digital and customized radio services (like #Pandora, #SiriusXM, and other Internet radio), and ad-supported on-demand streaming services (such as #YouTube, #Vevo, and ad-supported Spotify). The overwhelming majority of the industryβs revenue growth during the period came from streaming music.
Paid subscriptions have become the biggest format for music by revenue. Year-over-year growth of 33% brought total subscription revenues to $2.5 billion. So ΒΎ of recording industry revenue came from streaming, and ΒΎ of that from paid subscriptions. Despite far few users, subscription streaming vastly out performed ad-supported revenues.

ββπ· How the Camera Industry was Hit by Smartphones
Over the past few years, #smartphone cameras have improved significantly. So much so in fact, that many people no longer see the need to carry or buy a dedicated camera. While professionals and photo enthusiasts will always get better results using high-end cameras and lenses, modern #smartphones take pictures that are easily sufficient for the demands of the average consumer.
To the camera and photo equipment industry, the rise of smartphone photography has had devastating effects. According to CIPA, a Japan-based industry group with members such as #Olympus, #Canon and #Nikon, worldwide camera shipments dropped nearly 80 percent between 2010 and 2017.

ββπ° Gig Economy Workers Are Earning Half What They Did Five Years Ago
More people are working for ride-sharing and delivery companies but on average theyβre making less.
On average, drivers who transport people (#Uber or #Lyft) or things (#UberEats or #Postmates) through an app made 53 percent less in 2017 than they did in 2013, according to a new study by the JPMorgan Chase Institute.
The average monthly payments to those who worked for a transportation app in a given month declined to $783 from $1,469. Meanwhile, people working for leasing apps β #Airbnb, Turo, Parklee and other apps that let you rent assets like your home, car or parking space β saw their incomes from those platforms rise 69 percent to $1,736 on average.
This is happening as online gig work has become more popular, thanks in large part to the growth in the number transportation jobs.

ββπ€ Android's Dominance
Ten years ago, on September 23, 2008, the T-Mobile G1 made its debut, marking the birth hour of #Android. More than a year after #Apple had released the first #iPhone, Androidβs debut wasnβt as spectacular and, as opposed to the iPhone, the first Android device still had a physical keyboard. But #Googleβs open approach to building a mobile platform quickly proved to be successful and it took less than three years for Android to become the number 1 platform in the booming smartphone market.
