​​📺 Netflix's International Expansion Picks up Steam

#Netflix released its prediction-beating Q1 figures last week and this chart is looking at one interesting aspect of the announcement - the growing profitability of the international streaming side of the business.

Moving from 8.7% in Q4 2017, in Q1 2018 the margin leaped up to 15.3%. As the chart also shows, this appears to be due to revenues significantly outgrowing the cost of revenues (70% to 49%). Marketing is still a big part of Netflix's international expansion, but these costs also grew more slowly than revenue, at 60.8% compared to Q1 2017.

Despite the #CambridgeAnalytica scandal still swirling around #Facebook, resulting in a grilling at the hands of the U.S. Congress for CEO Mark Zuckerberg and the spurring on of the #DeleteFacebook movement, the company recorded strong quarterly figures for Q1 this year - including user growth.

This chart concentrates on revenue and profit. Although there was a dip in revenue compared to the previous quarter, net income rose and both figures are healthily up on a year-on-year basis.
