The day is celebrated on 29 August, the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand.
The National Sports Awards 2020 will be held virtually for the first time on August 29 in the history of the awards.
The day was designated as India's National Sports Day in 2012.

➢ India’s Tiger Population Reaches 3,925 with 6.1% Annual Growth Rate, Holds 75% of Global Wild

➢ A photo of an elephant taken at the Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR) in Tamil Nadu has emerged as
the winner of the Siena Drone Photo Awards 2023.
➢ According to the latest tiger census data released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the number of
tigers in India is set to reach 3,167 in 2022.
➢ Bandipur Tiger Reserve, Karnataka completed 50 years as a Project Tiger Reserve 1 April 2023.
➢ Tiger Safari in Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve (RVTR) in Rajasthan's Bundi district is expected to
be open in July.
➢ National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with
