On this day in 1472 Orkney and Shetland became formally part of Scotland when an Act of Parliament was passed.
Orkney and Shetland had from the 10th century been annexed by the Kingdom of Norway, which later entered a personal union with the Kingdom of Denmark. In 1468, Orkney was pledged by the Norwegian king Christian I as security against the payment of the dowry of his daughter Margaret, betrothed to James III of Scotland. The following year he pawned Shetland to the Scottish Crown which has since refused to accept repayment and return it. After the Acts of Union of 1707 Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles, along with the rest of Scotland, became part of the Kingdom of Great Britain.

Concerns have been raised over maintenance standards at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.
NHS Lothian have identified the 'risk that facilities in the RIE are not fit for purpose'. NHS Lothian are also in formal dispute proceedings against Consort Healthcare, the private owners of the RIE.
It is awful that something as clear as repairing a hospital and improving the level of care should need to be disputed. The Scottish people deserve better and our most vulnerable deserve acceptable care.

David became King Upon the death of his father, Robert the Bruce, David succeeded to throne at the age of five, and was crowned at Scone in November 1331, becoming the first Scottish monarch to be anointed at their coronation. During his childhood Scotland was governed by a series of guardians, and Edward III of England sought to take advantage of David's minority by supporting an invasion of Scotland by Edward Balliol, beginning the Second War of Scottish Independence. Following the English victory at the Battle of Halidon Hill in 1333, David, his queen and the rump of his government were evacuated to France, where he remained in exile until1341.
David II died unexpectedly of natural causes, and at the height of his power. He was buried in Holyrood Abbey. He left no children and was succeeded by his nephew, Robert II, the son of David's half-sister Marjorie Bruce David II was the last male of the House of Bruce.This started the Stewart dynasty.

As England and various other countries return to near normality, the SNP seem determined to hold onto the powers that they granted themselves at the start of the COVID crisis.
It appears that Scotland is going to continue under the boot of SNP authoritarianism for some time to come.
The people of Scotland need to stand up o the SNP/Green alliance and say, enough is enough. It's time for Scotland to have our freedom returned.

On this day in 1716, Lady Winifred Maxwell, Countess of Nithsdale arranged the daring escape of her husband from the Tower of London.
In 1715, her husband Sir William Maxwell joined the Jacobite rebellion, but he was captured at the Battle of Preston and sent to the Tower of London. Having been tried for treason, he was sentenced to death. Winifred, who was at Terregles when she heard of the capture of her husband, followed him to London, making part of the journey on horseback in bitter winter weather. She presented a petition to George I which he refused to receive. Knowing that there would be no pardon, the countess laid a meticulous plan to rescue her husband from the Tower of London.
The night before the day appointed for William's execution with the help of two other Jacobite ladies, Winifred effected his escape from the Tower. She had been admitted to his room, and by exchanging clothes with her maid, he escaped the attention of his guards. He escaped to Rome and she joined him later.

An arrest warrant has been issued for takeaway driver, Abdul Samad after he sexually assaulted a woman in Glasgow.
Samad, 39 lied to the 20-year-old woman, convincing her he was a taxi driver and then assaulted her. Samad already has a previous conviction of assault to injury from 2009.
This is one of many cases of how White women are treated in their own nation by foreigners. It is disgusting that this government calls these people 'just as Scottish as you'.

On this day in 1303 the Battle of Roslin took place in Midlothian. A Scots army defeated an English reconnaissance force.
An Anglo-Scottish truce expired on 30 November 1302, and the English prepared for a fresh invasion of Scotland, with John Segrave as the king's lieutenant in Scotland. King Edward I ordered Segrave to carry out a large-scale reconnaissance as far as Kirkintilloch, before the king himself fought a larger campaign. This force assembled at Wark on Tweed and moved north.
The English advanced in three divisions, harassed by the Scots. At night, they camped in three divisions, several miles apart. The two commanders, John Comyn and Simon Fraser, led a Scots force on a night march, fell on the English, capturing Segrave and several others. Robert Neville led his division towards the action. The English eventually freed Segrave, but the English paymaster Manton was killed.

Over 535,000 people are on hospital waiting lists in Scotland with many waiting over a year for routine surgery. One in ten of the Scottish population are now on a waiting list.
Doctors say they have seen loss of life due to these waiting lists and cannot see them bring cleared any time in the near future.
Though COVID has undoubtedly had an effect, the main issue is yet again mismanagement by the SNP government. When they took over the management of the health service it was in fine health. Since then, they have run the service down with a massive amount of understaffing - an issue that is causing many exhausted doctors and nurses to leave the service, making the problem even worse.
The SNP claim they are moving to fix the issues, but we have heard this rhetoric over and over from them and the situation with the health service just continues to get worse. Time for the SNP to go.
