On this day in 1918 Dame Muriel Spark was born in Edinburgh. Dame.Spark was a Scottish novelist, short story writer, poet and essayist.
She wrote such well know works as the Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, the Mandelbaum gate and the Drivers seat.
Spark was three times shortlisted for the booker Prize. She won several other prestigious literary awards and received 8 honoury Doctorates. She received a OBE in 1967 and was made a Dame in 1993. In 2008 , The Times ranked Spark as No. 8 in its list of "the 50 greatest British writers since 1945".

The SNP-controlled Glasgow City Council has yet again failed the people of Glasgow.
Glasgow has been already been suffering over the last few years from piles of rubbish because of reduced collections, streets that aren't cleaned and a plague of rats. Now over the last month there have been over 9000 complaints of missed rubbish collections from the already irregular collections that are happening.
With council taxes set to rise the people of Glasgow deserve a far better service than this. The health of Glasgow's population is being impacted by this poor service and Glasgow's reputation as a tourist destination is suffering as it becomes the dirty man of Europe.
Time to throw out these fake nationalists and replace them with real nationalists who actually care about the people of Glasgow.

Today the lads of Mid Scotland Fife took the initiative by litter picking the raploch in the city of Stirling, the raploch is an underappreciated yet still beautiful part of the city, hosted primarily to white working class Scots the local council seems to have completely neglected this area, PA Scotland plans on making things right by cleaning the trash the council won't, We believe the people of the raploch deserve better from their local constituents, we believe they need a Patriotic Alternative.

The battle was part of the Wars of the Three Kingdoms when a Royalist force of Highlanders and Confederate Irish troops under the overall command of James Graham, 1st Marquess of Montrose, routed and largely destroyed the pursuing forces of Archibald Campbell, 1st Marquess of Argyll, who had been encamped under the walls.
The Covenanters who had taken control of the Scottish Goverment decided to enter the English civil War on Parliaments side. The Royalist decided to look at ways of Stopping Scottish troops from serving in England . Montrose and a number of Irish troops won surprised victories against the Covenanter forces but then retreated into the Highlands.
On hearing that his route north was blocked and the Duke of Argyll was South of him and pursuing him. He decided to have a forced march south to attack Argyll.
Winning the victory allowed Montrose to raise further support amongst Scottish Nobles and Clans to carry on his campaign.

Shop prices have nearly doubled in many of Scotland's shops due to inflation. Particularly in flooring and furniture.

Over 1100 people are competing for only 102 places on midwifery courses in Scotland. It is not acceptable that there is a limit on courses in medicine. The numbers of places in general and mental health nursing have risen in the last years but are still inadequate. The situation with limits on doctors and dental training is even worse.
Scotland has a reputation as the sick man of Europe and, if we want to change that, part of the solution must be easy access to medical training and well-staffed hospitals and other medical facilities. The latest pandemic has shown us that there is a lack of qualified staff and this has put a terrible pressure on the staff we have.
In the last decades the NHS in the UK has relied on medical staff imported from abroad. But this is not good enough. On this day in 1304 John Comyn III of Badenoch, also known as Red Comyn, who was the Guardian of Scotland, signed a peace treaty at Strathord, near Perth, with Edward I of England.
Echoing the Treaty of Birgham, it was stipulated that laws, usages, and customs in place in the time of Alexander III should be retained. Comyn insisted that there should be no reprisals or disinheritance, which Edward accepted, with notable exceptions. Edward maintained his particular hatred for one former Guardian. Comyn was thus obliged to adhere to a condition in which he and other named individuals were to "capture Sir William Wallace and hand him over to the king, who will watch to see how each of them conducts himself so that he can do most favour to whoever shall capture Wallace..." There is no evidence to suggest Comyn made any effort to fulfill this condition.
Comyn was murdered at Greyfriars Kirk in Dumfries by Robert the Bruce and others in 1306. This plunged Scotland into civil war that lasted till 1308.

On this day in 1652 Oliver Cromwell's "tender union" is announced in Edinburgh. This union, which was forced on the Scots, gave them 30 seats in a United Parliament in London. At the same time General Monck was made Military Governor of Scotland. It was not until the monarchy was restored under Charles II in 1660 that Scotland again became an independent nation.

The Alien Act was a law passed by the Parliament of England in February 1705, as a response to the Parliament of Scotland's Act of Security of 1704, which in turn was partially a response to the English Act of Settlement of 1701. Lord Godolphin, the Lord High Treasurer, was instrumental in the Union of 1707 and all the Acts leading up to it. The Alien Act was passed to prevent the inconveniences that would occur hastily if these two Kingdoms were not to become one Union.
The Alien Act provided that Scottish nationals in England were to be treated as aliens (foreign nationals), and estates held by Scots would be treated as alien property, making inheritance much less certain. It also included an embargo on the import of Scottish products into England and English colonies – about half of Scotland's trade, covering goods such as linen, cattle and coal. There was also an embargo on the export of arms, ammunition, and horses to Scotland.

A protest against the rising cost of living and how it affects the poorer sections of the society more than the richer section of society is to he held in George Square on February the 12th.

They need to address the ever rising cost of fuel ,food and many other goods, tax rises and low wages to help the people of our Country. Work has to pay for people.
