On this day in 1909 at Stirling, Frank Barnwell with his brother Harold successfully completed the first powered flight of an aircraft built in Scotland.

Barnwell was born in Lewisham Kent in 1880 and later moved to Balfron, Stirling. His father, Richard, was a Managing Director at Fairfields Shipping and Engineering Co, Govan. He was educated at Fettes College in Edinburgh and first matriculated at Glasgow University in 1900 to study Natural Philosophy and Chemistry. He returned for his second session in 1902 studying Naval Architecture and Engineering. He received a BSc in 1905.

After two years travel abroad following graduation, Frank and his brother Harold founded the Grampian motors and engineering company They built a total of three aircraft in the years 1908-10. They achieved the first powered flight in Scotland at Stirling on July 28, 1909.

Frank joined Bristol Aircraft in 1911, He was responsible for the designs of aircraft such as the Bristol fighter, bulldog and blenheim
Yet another food manufacturing facility in Scotland faces the loss of jobs, potentially 70 out of a workforce of 90 people.

Years ago the likes of bread and biscuits were produced by local firms and sold in the local area .Now all this production is controlled mainly by mulitnationals including in the case of the McVities factory in the East end of Glasgow that faces closure and the loss of 500 jobs by a turkish company. These multinationals are only interested in profit and have no loyalty to the workers that have served them well for years.

Its time that we returned to localism with food and other goods produced in the local market's they are sold in. Local companies run by local People who care not only about their customers but the communiities they are based in as well.

Food security is a major issue for a nation and cant be allowed to be controlled by the faceless corporatiosn that may decide its more cost effective for them to import rather than produce locally. We should produce the food we eat.
This day in Scottish historty was a very significant day in the saga of Mary Queen of Scots. With several important events taking place years apart

In 1565 Mary married her second husband lord Darnley at Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh. Darnley was her half cousin both having grandparents in common via Mary tudor, the sister of Henry the VIII. Of course the marriage ended in tragedy with Darnley being assasinated after becoming unpopular with Mary and some the lords of Scotland due to his behaviour.

In 1567 , Marys son, james was crowned king of Scotland , after his mother was forced to abdicate the crown,at the age of 13 months in a ceremony at the church of the holy rude in Stirling. The sermon at the church was preached by the Scottish protestant reformer John Knox and James was brought up as a Protestant in the church of Scotland.
The madness of the Scottish Government continues with them tweeting out about "pregnant people" rather than women. The Scottish government seems determined to be the most "woke" government and the laughing stock of Europe.

It's good to see though that several politicians jumped on it and its ridiculousness. The fact is, no matter whether the Scottish government likes it or not, women have babies, not anybody else, and to try to deny that is doing mothers a disservice.

Everyone needs to stand up to this marginalising of women's place in society and the attempted rewriting of reality and nature.
Denmark is planning to return Syrian refugees to Syria due to the improved security situation. Large parts of Syria, especially the capital Damascus, are peaceful with the Syrian Government in control.

But the usual do-gooders and enemies of the European people intend to take Denmark to the European Court of Justice to try to stop the deportations. They are worried that other nations will follow Denmark's example in the future.

Hopefully Denmark will win the case. With there being no reason that "refugees" should not be returned now that the situation is improved in their home countries. Refuge is only supposed to be a temporary measure.

It would be nice to see Scotland and the UK follow Denmark's example but it seems unlikely. Especially here in Scotland under the current regime it seems that such a policy would never be implemented. The Scottish Government seems determined to open the floodgates to immigration from all over the world.
Mood of the Nation will be live tomorrow night instead. I have work commitments going on and today is the last day for overtime. My apologies for this and this will be the only time until something comes up. Thank you for your understanding and support. I'll see you all tomorrow at 6 pm.

On this day in Scottish history the Beano comic was first published by DC Thomson, a Scottish publishing company based in Dundee.

It is the world's longest running comic, first published in 1938 and publishing its 4000th issue in August 2019. It is estimated that in its lifetime it has sold over 2 billion copies and still to this day sells in excess of 40,000 copies a week.
Asim Akram, who runs a snack bar in the Lothians, appeared in court for offering a 15-year-old employee money for sex.

This is just another example of how the grooming of young white Girls by Asian men is still a major problem.

It has never been acknowledged that there is a problem in Scotland but there is. It appears, as it does with most issues around the ethnic communities in Scotland, that the powers that be would rather turn a blind eye.
If anybody fancies a bit of left wing pro-refugee Scottish comedy for the weekend the film Limbo is just being released.

Based, it claims, partly on the Syrian families sent to live in Bute a few years ago, it tells the tale of four refugees sent to live in the Hebrides to await their asylum decision.

There's misunderstandings, hard times for the poor refugees treated badly by the system, laughter, mistrust, tales of how hard life has been and is for them. But of course it all comes good with the four refugees being great guys with much to offer and everyone comes to love, respect and accept them.

Makes you so happy that soon every spot in our beautiful land will be full of such great chaps and we will all welcome and embrace them in the end.
Stormzy, a grime artist it seems, along with international banking giant HSBC have agreed to fund with £20,000 a year 10 black students each year for the next 3 years to go to Cambridge University.

All very well and good, it's their money. (Well, that's debatable in the banks' case I guess.) But when similar proposals have been made to set up scholarships exclusively for poor white students, this has been rejected by the universities and leading private schools and called 'racist'. As in the case of when a benefactor offered £1 million to set up scholarships for underprivileged white males to go to Dulwich and Winchester private schools.

Given that we are supposed to live in a new age of 'equality' and it has been officially acknowledged, finally, that white boys from working class back grounds are in fact the most underprivileged group in the UK, surely Stormzy and HSBC's actions are not acceptable either. Or at the very least HSBC should be providing matching funding for underprivileged White students.

On this day in 1547. The siege of St Andrews castle by a french fleet ended with the Surrender of the castle. Among those captured by the French was John Knox, the protestant reformer, who was sent to be a slave in the French Galleys. He and other captives were eventually released.from the galleys and allowed to travel home after a peace treaty between the French. English and Scots was signed.

The siege started in 1546, when a group of Scottish protestant lairds and their supporters entered the castle and assasinated Cardinal David Beaton.

The assassination was partly in revenge for the execution of Protestsnt Preacher George Wishart by the cardinal. It was also part of what was know as the rough wooing. The rough wooing was a war between Scotland and England. Partly totry to force a marriage between Mary queen of Scots and the English heir of Henry the VIII.

More on the seige can be read at "Siege of St Andrews Castle - Wikipedia" https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_St_Andrews_Castle
These days even medical Technology is racist it seems.

It appears that pulse oximeters , that use a beam of light through the skin and blood flow to measure oxygen , may take wrong readings from Darker skinned people. Leading to the oxygen in their blood bring overestimated snd some becoming seriously ill.

I was kidding at first about it being a racism issue. But it seems that at least some in the NHS think this is yet another example of systematic Racism.

Dr Omar Jundi, an intensive care consultant in West Yorkshire, observed inaccuracies in pulse oximeter readings in black Covid patients.

"It's something I would pick up on at least once a day, in maybe two or three patients," he said.

"It's an aspect of the sort of systemic biases and systemic racism that occur in the NHS and the care that we provide in the NHS every day."

On this day in 1834 The Slavery Abolition Act 1833 (3 & 4 Will. IV c. 73) came into force it abolished slavery in most parts of the British Empire. This Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom expanded the jurisdiction of the Slave Trade Act 1807 and made the purchase or ownership of slaves illegal within the British Empire, with the exception of "the Territories in the Possession of the East India Company", Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), and Saint Helena. The Act was repealed in 1997 as a part of wider rationalisation of English statute law; however, later anti-slavery legislation remains in force.

We constantly hear people going on about the effects of slavery, calls for reperations etc etc. But what is never talked about is the 100,000 poasibly millions of Europeans enslaved over the centuries by the Barbary pirates, the Ottoman empire and others.
When will we hear calls for them to be remembered band apologies to be given to their descendants ?
It's been a year since you left us, Nick.
Rest in peace brother.
