The Director-General of Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), Maj. Gen. Ahmed Sharif, has described 2025 as a β€œlandmark and consequential year” in Pakistan’s ongoing war against terrorism.

According to DG ISPR, Pakistan’s security forces conducted a total of 75,175 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) during 2025, averaging 206 operations per day.

Breakdown by region:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP): 14,658

Balochistan: 57,778

Rest of Pakistan: 1,739

Despite the high operational tempo, KP recorded the highest number of terrorist attacks, attributed by DG ISPR to the province’s politically conducive environment.

Militants Attacks in Pakistan – 2025

Total: 5,397

KP: 3,811 (71%)

Balochistan: 1,557 (29%)

Rest of Pakistan: 29

DG ISPR also highlighted that 2025 saw the highest number of militants attacks in Pakistan’s recent history, resulting in:

Militants neutralized: 2,597

Civilians and Security personnel martyred: 1,235

Reflecting on operational effectiveness, DG ISPR noted:
β€œIn 2021, for every militants eliminated, three of our brave soldiers were martyred. In 2025, the ratio has reversed: for every soldier martyred, two militants have been neutralized.”

Maj. Gen. Ahmed Sharif further explained that the surge in militants activity since 2021 correlates with political changes in Afghanistan following the Doha Agreement and Taliban takeover, which transformed the country into a safe haven and operational hub for multiple militants organizations.
