-β‘π΅π°/π΄/π³οΈ: ALERT
Today, the residents of North Waziristan launched the Ulaasi Pasoon (Peopleβs Peace Uprising) in the Mir Ali area, protesting ongoing insecurity, particularly following two recent violent clashes affecting civilians. The event drew thousands of participants, including tribal elders from across the district, political and social leaders, and members of the business community. The gathering symbolically observed a collective Friday prayer to underscore their demand for peace and stability.
During the Pasoon, the participants unanimously presented the following demands:
1. The government must deploy all available resources to establish lasting peace.
2. The two-day weekly and nightly curfews in North Waziristan, despite security conditions being comparable across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, must be lifted immediately.
3. The names of all tribal elders and innocent individuals listed under Fourth Schedule (Schedule-IV) should be removed without delay.
4. The imposition of Section 4 in North Waziristan will not be accepted.
5. All non-custom-paid vehicles currently held in the district must be returned immediately to their rightful owners.
6. Despite ongoing tensions with Afghanistan, the movement of commercial vehicles and passengers across the border must be restored, and an urgent strategy developed to reopen the Ghulam Khan Border. Participants emphasized that global trade persists despite political disputes, underscoring the need for immediate reopening.
7. Full and prompt compensation should be provided for operational losses, including destroyed marketplaces, damaged shops, and fuel stations.
8. All blocked national identity cards (CNICs) and passports of North Waziristan residents must be cleared and restored immediately.
A deadline of the 20th of this month has been set for these demands to be acknowledged. In the interim, a joint dialogue team will be formed to engage both parties in discussions aimed at resolving issues through consensus and mutual understanding.
The elders emphasized that the people of North Waziristan seek peace and justice and will continue their peaceful struggle until their legitimate demands are met. They also warned that if the demands are ignored, a peaceful social boycott campaign targeting both parties will be launched, stating that this movement will be fully public, organized, and nonviolent, and will persist until justice is delivered.
