TTP Claimed Activities – 2025

‎The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has released a self-produced annual infographic detailing its claimed activities for 2025, reporting 3,573 attacks nationwide. This represents a 103% increase compared to 1,758 attacks claimed in 2024, continuing a significant upward trajectory in self-reported activity. For context, the group claimed 881 attacks in 2023, 367 in 2022, 282 in 2021, and 177 in 2020, indicating a consistent and sharp rise in reported activities over recent years.

Geographic Distribution

‎The claimed attacks were concentrated overwhelmingly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), which accounted for 3,478 attacks (97.4%). Within KP, the highest reported activity was in former tribal districts: South Waziristan (819), North Waziristan (588), Khyber (381), Bajaur (293), and Chitral (244), followed by districts including Tank (242), Bannu (199), Dera Ismail Khan (198), Lakki Marwat (117), and Kurram (105). Smaller but notable numbers were reported in settled districts such as Mohmand (56), Lower Dir (54), Peshawar (53), Orakzai (38), Karak (18), Upper Dir (13), Swat (12), Swabi (10), Kohat (10), Mardan (9), Malakand (8), Shangla (7), Buner (3), and Hazara (1), reflecting continued operational focus in both tribal and adjacent settled areas.

Other provinces reported minimal claimed activity: Balochistan (41 attacks, 1.1%) with activity in Makran (14), Pishin (12), Quetta (5), Zhob (4), Qila Saifullah (3), and Qalat (3); Punjab (37 attacks, 1.0%) with South Punjab (36) and North Punjab (1); Sindh (11 attacks, 0.31%) with Karachi (10) and Naushero Feroze (1); and Gilgit-Baltistan (6 attacks, 0.2%).

The provincial distribution largely mirrors the pattern observed in 2024, highlighting the continued operational focus in KP.

Monthly Trend

‎The claimed attacks display clear seasonal fluctuations:

β€”‎Q1 (Jan–Mar, 526 attacks): Gradual increase from winter into spring, suggesting post-winter operational mobilization.

β€”‎Q2 (Apr–Jun, 850 attacks): Further escalation in activity, likely facilitated by improved weather and terrain accessibility.

-‎Q3 (Jul–Sep, 1,275 attacks): Peak period, with August (symbolic dates) alone accounting for 15.6% of annual claims, reflecting heightened operational tempo during summer months.

β€”‎Q4 (Oct–Dec, 922 attacks): Gradual decline toward winter, indicating a potential slowdown due to environmental constraints or strategic regrouping.

‎Seasonal mobility and terrain accessibility appear to heavily influence operational claims, with summer months consistently reporting the highest levels of activity and winter months the lowest.

Types of Claimed Attacks

‎The majority of claimed attacks were Sniper and Laser Attacks (1,280) and Guerrilla attacks (950), together comprising nearly 63% of total activity. Other commonly cited attacks include Ambushes (336) and Hand Grenade/Explosion Attacks (301). Less frequent tactics reported include Retaliatory attacks (260), Assaults (212), Targeted attacks (174), Mortar Attacks (100), and few suicide attacks (5).

‎The numbers suggests a predominance of small-scale, mobile, and tactical engagements, with minimal reported use of high-risk or large-scale attacks.

Additional Numbers

‎The report also includes claims regarding targeted institutions, casualties, material and infrastructure damage, and equipment seizures, providing a broader operational context. These claims are self-reported and unverified, and may be exaggerated, but they offer insight into reported operational patterns and focus areas.

Conclusion

‎The 2025 infographic reinforces previously observed trends: a heavy concentration of activity in KP, seasonal peaks during summer months, and a reliance on low- to medium-intensity, mobile operations. While the figures cannot be independently verified, they provide useful indications of temporal, geographic, and tactical patterns of militant operations in Pakistan.

Pakistan witnessed a sharp escalation in militancy in 2025, with 699 militants attacks marking a 34% year-on-year increase and 1,034 fatalities, a 21% rise, alongside 1,366 injuries, according to the Pakistan Security Report 2025 by PIPS. Security forces bore the brunt of violence, accounting for over 42% of deaths (437 personnel), while civilians suffered 354 fatalities.

Violence remained heavily regionalized, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan accounting for over 95% of incidents. KP experienced 413 attacks (+40%), resulting in 581 deaths and 698 injuries, including complex, coordinated assaults across 11 districts on Independence Day, highlighting an entrenched presence of TTP and affiliates.

Balochistan recorded 254 attacks (+26%), causing 419 casualties, with militant groups like the BLA and BLF shifting from hit-and-run strikes to high-impact, coordinated attacks targeting economic infrastructure, highways, and state symbols to amplify political messages and disrupt governance.

Other provinces faced lower-intensity attacks. Sindh saw 21 incidents (16 in Karachi), resulting in 14 fatalities and 17 injuries. Punjab recorded seven attacks, killing five (including four militants) and injuring two policemen. Notably, a suicide blast outside Islamabad’s judicial complex killed 12, claimed by Jamaatul Ahrar. Gilgit-Baltistan reported three attacks, killing three security personnel and injuring six others.

The report underscores the evolving militant tactics, persistent regional threats, and the frontline burden carried by Pakistan’s security apparatus, highlighting an increasingly complex security environment demanding focused counterterrorism measures.

Today, the residents of North Waziristan launched the Ulaasi Pasoon (People’s Peace Uprising) in the Mir Ali area, protesting ongoing insecurity, particularly following two recent violent clashes affecting civilians. The event drew thousands of participants, including tribal elders from across the district, political and social leaders, and members of the business community. The gathering symbolically observed a collective Friday prayer to underscore their demand for peace and stability.

During the Pasoon, the participants unanimously presented the following demands:

1. The government must deploy all available resources to establish lasting peace.

2. The two-day weekly and nightly curfews in North Waziristan, despite security conditions being comparable across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, must be lifted immediately.

3. The names of all tribal elders and innocent individuals listed under Fourth Schedule (Schedule-IV) should be removed without delay.

4. The imposition of Section 4 in North Waziristan will not be accepted.

5. All non-custom-paid vehicles currently held in the district must be returned immediately to their rightful owners.

6. Despite ongoing tensions with Afghanistan, the movement of commercial vehicles and passengers across the border must be restored, and an urgent strategy developed to reopen the Ghulam Khan Border. Participants emphasized that global trade persists despite political disputes, underscoring the need for immediate reopening.

7. Full and prompt compensation should be provided for operational losses, including destroyed marketplaces, damaged shops, and fuel stations.

8. All blocked national identity cards (CNICs) and passports of North Waziristan residents must be cleared and restored immediately.

A deadline of the 20th of this month has been set for these demands to be acknowledged. In the interim, a joint dialogue team will be formed to engage both parties in discussions aimed at resolving issues through consensus and mutual understanding.

The elders emphasized that the people of North Waziristan seek peace and justice and will continue their peaceful struggle until their legitimate demands are met. They also warned that if the demands are ignored, a peaceful social boycott campaign targeting both parties will be launched, stating that this movement will be fully public, organized, and nonviolent, and will persist until justice is delivered.
