Preparations for a decisive security operation against militant groups in the volatile Tirah Valley have entered their final phase. Security officials have reportedly reached a verbal understanding on a possible timeframe for the operation. As these developments unfold, residents have begun relocating from the valley, while collectively presenting a set of demands to the government.
These demands include firm
guarantees of lasting peace, fair compensation for affected families, meaningful consultation on future security strategies, and the protection of the fundamental rights of the local population. Community representatives have emphasized that no major action would be acceptable unless these concerns are comprehensively addressed.
Meanwhile, multiple Pakistani media outlets, facilitated by the Tirah Bagh Brigade Headquarters, were invited to visit the valley. The media coverage presented a uniform framed narrative, seemingly aimed at shaping public perception and easing the ground for a military operation. The programs highlighted that despite sustained efforts by Pakistani forces along the border, the frontier remains porous, allowing militant infiltration through existing gaps.
According to these reports, Afghan forces have provided no effective assistance in preventing cross-border movement. Instead, the infiltration is allegedly facilitated by Afghan Taliban border personnel, who reportedly guide militants through safe routes while simultaneously engaging Pakistani border forces to divert attention and create passage for militant groups.
The Tirah Valley was portrayed as a major operational hub for militant organizations, where planning, facilitation, and coordination of attacks take place, including operations targeting Peshawar. Security threats remain constant, with the possibility of sniper attacks from surrounding mountainous terrain at any time.
The reports further claimed Narco-Militancy as militant networks in the valley are closely linked with narcotics trafficking. Drug smuggling routes reportedly operate between Tirah and Nangarhar, with narcotics subsequently distributed to markets across Peshawar, Punjab, Sindh, and other regions. Due to the absence of alternative economic opportunities, a significant portion of the local population is said to depend on this illicit trade for survival.
According to these reports, Government authority, including civilian administration and police presence, is virtually non-existent in the valley. As a result, all essential services, ranging from security and counterterrorism operations to education and healthcare, are reportedly handled by a single institution: the Frontier Corps. The valley lacks basic infrastructure, including roads, schools, and hospitals. Residents accuse political leadership of prolonged neglect, stating that politicians only visit the area during election periods to seek votes, the reports claimed.
Narcotics trafficking is described as the primary financial lifeline for militant groups, supplemented by extortion from civilians. Militants are also accused of forcibly occupying civilian homes, maintaining facilitators within residential areas, and using populated locations for movement and attacks, often employing civilians as human shields. Although militant positions are frequently detected, strikes are reportedly avoided due to their presence within civilian areas, making large-scale civilian evacuation a prerequisite for any major operation.
Through this coordinated framed media coverage, security forces appear to be building pressure and public justification for launching a full-scale operation in the Tirah Valley, citing the need to neutralize entrenched militant networks while addressing the complex humanitarian and security challenges involved.
