Flash floods, triggered by heavy rainfall, have claimed several lives in northwestern Pakistan, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and other regions of the country, over the past 24 hours. At present, districts such as Buner, Bajaur, Lower Dir, Swat, Battagram, Kohistan, Chitral, Gilgit, and areas of Kashmir are experiencing severe flooding, resulting in considerable loss of life and widespread devastation.

On the 4th anniversary of Taliban takeover:

-Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada issued a statement telling officials to stop using the term “interim government” and to remain in service to what they call the Islamic system. He urged them to focus on families of those killed in their ranks and to care for orphans.

-Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani claimed that security in Afghanistan is stable, alleging that foreign and domestic “enemies” cannot accept this. He said the Taliban seek “balanced” relations with other countries, and warned against any efforts to undermine their control, saying they have “sacrificed thousands” for it.

-At a dam inauguration in Herat, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid warned that those opposing them “will take this wish to their graves.” He said that after enforcing their interpretation of 'Sharia', they are prioritising economic projects, and called on Afghans to back their administration.

-🇵🇰/🏳️/🏴:

CTD Dera claims to have arrested 4 militants of the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (Bali Khiyara Group) allegedly planning attacks during 14 August celebrations.

UPDATE: IS’s official media reports that ISKP fighters clashed with Taliban forces in the Dara-e-Noor district of Nangarhar. According to the statement, its fighters engaged a patrol of the Taliban militia in the area using machine guns, killing one member and wounding another.
The Afghan government has not yet commented on the incident.

-Breaking News:
Reports claims that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government MI-17 helicopter has crashed in the Chanki Banda area of Mohmand district amid bad weather. The aircraft was on its way to Salarzai in Bajaur district for a flood rescue mission. Authorities had deployed the helicopter as part of ongoing relief operations in flood-hit regions.

Initial reports indicate that a helicopter has gone down in the Soki Mountains of Pandiyali, Mohmand. Local police are attempting to reach the crash site, but the rugged terrain is making access difficult. Residents say they witnessed the crash and heard the sound of the impact. Early accounts suggest that three people have lost their lives.

Khyber Pakhtunkwa Government Statement:

"A provincial government MI-17 helicopter carrying relief supplies for flood-affected areas in Bajaur crashed due to bad weather, said the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

As a result of this tragic accident, five crew members, including two pilots, were martyred, said Ali Amin Gandapur.

The provincial government has announced a day of mourning tomorrow, stated the Chief Minister.

Tomorrow, the national flag across the province will fly at half-mast, Ali Amin Gandapur added.

Relief teams have been dispatched to the accident site, said the Chief Minister of KP.

The bodies of the martyrs will be buried with full state honors, Ali Amin Gandapur confirmed.

We share equally in the grief of the martyrs’ families, said Ali Amin Gandapur.

We pray for the elevation of the martyrs’ ranks and for patience and solace for their bereaved families, stated the Chief Minister.

The helicopter crew sacrificed their lives to save others, Ali Amin Gandapur said.

These are our true heroes, and their sacrifice will be recorded in golden letters in history, affirmed the Chief Minister."

Those who mocked the idea of helicopters going to KPK should think twice now. Flying in treacherous weather over mountains isn’t a stunt—it’s dangerous. Your relentless complaints pushed the government into a risky decision, and now lives have been lost, reckless pressure led to tragedy.

According to Rescue 1122, the death toll in Bunair, has reached 157 so far across the three tehsils of Bunair.

-🇵🇰/🏳️/🏴: MONITORING

TKD has confirmed that out of the claimed attacks, 39 actually took place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, involving various Taliban-affiliated groups, including TTP and IMP.

Additionally, TKD reported 9 attacks in Balochistan on August 14, 2025 by Baloch Militant Groups.

From the total 50 attacks, there were 11 fatalities resulted among police and security forces, with 9 others injured. All remaining attacks were successfully repelled, and no checkpoints were overrun.

Notably, 56% of the attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were concentrated in its southern region.

The catastrophic weather continues to wreak havoc, leaving hundreds wounded or unaccounted for, as authorities struggle to finalize the official numbers.

Just yesterday, a cloudburst in Pir Panjal Mountains, Kishtwar, IOJK claimed over 60 lives, and more than a hundred remain missing, presumed dead. Tragically, similar scenes are now emerging elsewhere.

While climate change is undeniably at play, reckless tourism and rampant deforestation for development have worsened the impact. Without urgent, decisive action, the future of these already fragile regions remains perilously uncertain

A local person in Bunir reports that approximately 400 people have lost their lives, many trapped under landslide debris, while entire roads have been swept away.

-🇵🇰/🇨🇳/🇦🇫:

Afghanistan, Pakistan, and China will convene in Kabul on August 20 for a high-level trilateral meeting. The talks will bring together Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.

The discussions are expected to focus on enhancing counterterrorism cooperation and exploring the inclusion of Afghanistan in the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Muttaqi had initially planned to visit Pakistan on August 5, but the trip was canceled by both sides due to “technical reasons.” It later emerged that the UN Security Council had not approved the visit, as Muttaqi remains on the UN’s designated list of Taliban members.

This will mark the sixth trilateral dialogue between the three nations’ foreign ministers, following informal talks in Beijing in May 2024. The fifth round took place in Islamabad in May 2023.

Dar is scheduled to arrive in Kabul on August 19 for the meeting and will subsequently host Wang Yi in Islamabad on August 20–21 for a Pakistan–China strategic dialogue. After the Kabul meeting, the Chinese foreign minister is expected to travel to Pakistan.

Unknown individuals opened fire on police near Chowk Yadgar in Thana Kulachi, DI Khan. During the exchange of fire, SHO Aslam Khan and two constables were slightly injured. Police retaliated, killing one millitant and injuring three others.

The DPO Dera, along with Elite, RRF, and other police teams, quickly reached the scene. Nearby forests have been cordoned off, and a search operation is underway, said the Dera police spokesperson.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government couldn’t withstand the pressure, and it cost them dearly with the helicopter.

During the Swat incident, the government faced heavy criticism for not dispatching a helicopter. So, when news of the flood surge from Bajaur came in this morning, they immediately sent one. However, the helicopter was not suitable for emergency rescue operations, a fact that rescue sources had warned about earlier. Driven by pressure, the government went ahead with the decision, which unfortunately proved to be disastrous.
