The Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), through its media wing Umar Media, has released the fifth episode of its Shaheen Jawan series, featuring a prepared suicide operative identified as Zaafranullah, alias Abu Huraira. The video depicts his training and operational preparation in militant camps leading up to planned attacks.
According to the footage, Zaferullah was being prepared for an operation in Karachi resembling the Mainwali Airbase attack. However, before the plan could be executed, he was apprehended by Pakistani security forces after his activities were detected. The video alleges that he was killed in a staged encounter by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) following nearly two months in custody.
PakPluse highlights that Zaafranullah, alias Abu Huraira, was killed in Manghopir, Karachi, on 28 July 2025, along with two associates, one identified as Qudratullah, during a targeted CTD operation. Zaferullah was a high-priority militant, carrying a bounty of Rs. 20 million. The group is also believed to have played a key role in the November 2024 attack targeting Chinese engineers in Pakistan.

The third round of Pakistan-Afghanistan talks was held in Istanbul under the mediation of Turkiye and Qatar, following cautious optimism from previous rounds that had suggested a monitoring and verification mechanism could maintain peace. However, negotiations quickly stalled when Kabul unexpectedly introduced a new draft reversing prior agreements, triggering mistrust and ending the talks without a joint statement. Pakistan, led by Lt. Gen. Asim Malik, insisted on verifiable steps against anti-Pakistan groups, a binding religious decree forbidding holy war, dismantling of terrorist infrastructure, and an end to support from Afghanistanβs GDI and Haqqani network, in exchange for fully opening the border and facilitating trade. The Afghan delegation offered only broad religious guidance and denied the presence of armed groups, undermining proposals including a Joint Counter-Terrorism Mechanism (JCM) meant to enhance security, trade, and transparency. Mediators expressed frustration at Kabulβs reversals, leaving the talks at an impasse, though Pakistanβs offer remains open if verifiable commitments are reinstated. The Afghan government, via spokesperson Zabihullah, framed the TTP issue as longstanding since 2002 and noted prior efforts to facilitate peace talks, while historical agreements like the 2020 Doha Deal have been undermined by renewed use of Afghan soil by terrorist groups, leaving the future of bilateral negotiations uncertain.
