According to the footage, Zaferullah was being prepared for an operation in Karachi resembling the Mainwali Airbase attack. However, before the plan could be executed, he was apprehended by Pakistani security forces after his activities were detected. The video alleges that he was killed in a staged encounter by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) following nearly two months in custody.

Members of the Marwat tribe, including the Tatrikhel and FatahKhan Khel clans, responded and engaged the militants in an exchange of fire. Khan Baba, wanted in a prior case, had previously opened fire on police during an arrest attempt on 19 October, injuring two officers. Investigations revealed that the explosives were supplied by a man named Abrar from Mardan; however, a subsequent raid in Mardan did not apprehend him.
Sources indicated that Khan Baba had intended to deploy the explosives to evade arrest but was thwarted during the raid. Authorities also recovered a significant cache of advanced weaponry from his home.
