But they did find something that had a much bigger impact on wildlife: habitat quality. The best predictor of wildlife abundance was not human activity, but factors like forest connectivity, nearby housing density, and the amount of adjacent agriculture. The results were published in the Journal of Applied Ecology.

The livestock sector is a pillar of the global food system and a contributor to poverty reduction, food security and agricultural development. According to the FAO, lifestyle contribute is as 40% of the global value of agricultural outputs and supports the livelihoods and food and nutrition security of almost 1.3 billion people. At the same time, there is wide scope to improve livestock sector practices so that they are more sustainable, more equitable, and pose less risk to animal and human health.
Livestock play a major role in sustainable food systems—for example, manure is a critical source of natural fertilizer, while livestock used as draft animals can help boost productivity in regions where there is low mechanization. Livestock are important assets for vulnerable communities. Globally, around 500 million pastorials rely on livestock herding for food, income, and as a store of wealth, collateral or safety net in times of need. Locally, livestock production systems have the potential to contribute to the preservation of biodiversity and to carbon sequestration in soils and biomass. In harsh environments, such as mountains and drylands, livestock is often the only way to sustainably convert natural resources into food, fiber, and work power for local communities.
Increasing incomes, changing diets, and population growth have led to increased demand and made the livestock srctor one of the fastest growing agricultural sub-sectors in middle- and low-income countries. This represents a major opportunity for smallholders, agribusiness, and job creators throughout the livestock supply chain. However, if not properly managed, this growth risks accentuating sustainability issues that span equity, environmental impacts, and public health.

The World Health Organization said that all hypotheses of the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic were still on the table. US authorities backed the theory that the virus originated from a lab. WHO repeatedly called for more transparency from China, saying that it was impossible to be sure about the origins of the virus until authorities shared data. However, US officials contradicted this last week, after a Wall Street Journal report had determined that the virus may have been the result of a lab leak.

Stress is commonplace at work, especially in fields like healthcare where the stakes of low performance can literally be life and death. The emotional culture of anxiety that stems from constant workplace stress is a very important topic that should be discussed, yet it has not been researched in-depth until recently.

A team of international researchers has uncovered a fascinating phenomenon: in response to rising global temperatures, Himalayan glaciers are actively working to preserve themselves by cooling the air in contact with their ice surface. However, it remains unclear how long these glaciers can continue to fight back against the effects of climate change.

Surgeons in New York City successfully attached a pig kidney to a human patient and watched the pinkish organ function normally for 54 hours. Such procedures have been done in nonhuman primates. However, this is the first time that a pig kidney has been transplanted to a human body and not been immediately rejected.

While the Republican field is packed with male candidates, so far, some of the sharpest Clinton critics have come from women. Democrats successfully campaigned on an alleged GOP perpetrated "war on women" in twenty twelve, but faltered in 2014 when they tried the same tactic. With Hillary Clinton as the likely Democratic nominee, the fight for women voters will be a central part of the twenty sixteen campaign.
