🔶Widely known as the 'Hockey Wizard' and 'The Magician', Major Dhyan Chand was born on August 29, 1905, and National Sports Day is marked to celebrate his birthday.

- He was born in Allahabad (Prayagraj) in Uttar Pradesh on August 29, 1905.
- He rose to prominence in the pre-independence period.
- Star of the Indian hockey team, he played an important role in helping India complete their first hat-trick of Olympic gold medals with wins at the 1928, 1932 and 1936 Summer Olympics.
- He retired as a Major in the Punjab Regiment of the Indian Army in 1956.

Honorary Achievement
- He was conferred with the Padma Bhushan, the thir highest civilian award.

🔶 BAL AADHAAR INITIATIVE

📝Over 7.9 million children aged up to five were enrolled under the Unique Identification Authority’s Bal Aadhaar initiative from April to July.

◾️ The Bal Aadhaar, a precursor to a standard Aadhaar, is issued in blue colour to children aged up to five. Upon expiration, a regular Aadhaar is issued.

◾️ Benefits: Bal Aadhaar works as a facilitator in availing several welfare benefits, and also works as a digital photo identity for children.

🔶The concept of Indian Standard Time was accepted in the country on September 1, 1947.

IST is observed throughout the country, with a time offset of UTC + 5.30. IST means that India is five and a half hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time. 

📝How is it calculated?
- India does not follow Daylight Saving Time, like other countries in the world.
- IST is calculated on the basis of 82.5 degrees East longitude from a clock tower in Mirzapur near Allahabad, as it is near the corresponding longitude reference line.

◾️History
- During the British Raj in 1884, India used to have two time zones, Bombay time and Calcutta time.

- The ancient Indian astronomy divided the time measured from the onset of the sunrise into smaller time units equalling one prana (time span of one breath which is 4 seconds). 15 breaths equaled a minute.
