Global government-bond markets are deteriorating further. Japan’s 2-year yield just printed a fresh 31-year high. France’s 10-year yield is now at its highest level since the 2008 financial crisis. Germany’s 10-year yield has reached a 15-year peak. U.S. 2-year and 5-year yields have fully erased the drop that followed the Treasury announcement and are closing in on multi-year highs. That is still not the most concerning development. The Fed is pointing toward rate hikes, the Bank of Japan is expected to raise rates next month, and other central banks are turning more hawkish as inflation picks up. The same sequence played out in 2022 and triggered a broad sell-off across global markets.
