A walk through the deserted streets of Pompeii, the ancient Roman city destroyed in 79 AD during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The city was buried under a layer of volcanic ash, and the first excavations began as early as the 18th century. To date, approximately 80% of the city has been excavated, and restoration work is ongoing.
