The Art of Noticing

Lately, I’ve been slowing down really noticing the little things around me: the cracks in a wall, the way sunlight hits a worn wooden table, the faded colors of old leaves.

Practicing the art of noticing and the art of living
invites us to slow down and be fully present, finding
beauty in textures, colors, sounds, and small everyday
moments. By honoring our own pace, embracing life's
rhythms, and making space for reflection and
gratitude, we turn ordinary days into a tapestry of joy,
meaning, and quiet magic.

You keep postponing happiness for the future, thinking life will start after university, after graduation, after a job or marriage, while forgetting to live and enjoy the present moment.

How to Master Art of Noticing - Guideline

1. Slow down your perception

Noticing begins where rushing ends.
Pause for 10–30 seconds at random moments.

Ask yourself:
What do I see that I didn’t notice before?
What sounds are present right now?
What sensations does my body feel?

2. Look for differences, not objects

Your brain ignores what it thinks is familiar. Differences wake it up.

Notice:
What changed since yesterday?
What doesn’t belong here?
What’s slightly unusual or imperfect?

Examples:
A crack in a wall
Light shifting across the same room

3. Zoom in → zoom out

Train both detail and context.

Zoom in
Pick one small thing (leaf, cup, sound).

Observe:
Shape, color variations, texture, movement

Zoom out

Then notice:
Space, relationships, patterns, flow

Switching between the two builds awareness depth.

4. Practice “first-time seeing”

Pretend you’ve never seen this place before.

Ask:
If I were a visitor, what would stand out?
What would I describe to someone who’s never been here?

This breaks familiarity blindness.

5. Write or mentally label observations

Naming sharpens noticing.
“Soft hum of electricity”
“Uneven footsteps behind me”
“Warm light, cool air”

6. Reduce constant input

Phones and headphones numb noticing.

Walking without audio once a day
Eating one meal without screens
Sitting in silence for 2 minutes
