πŸ”ΉDue to injury concerns, Fulham dropped Max Noble as a teenager. Now, his organization, Certified Sports, is advocating for improved protection of children in football academies, portraying their plight in the powerful film 'Dropped'...
πŸ”ΉHe addresses a topic that is sometimes disregarded. Max prioritizes three areas: a safer workplace, a proper after-care system, and better working circumstances in everyday life. He emphasizes the value of experienced career counselors mentoring young players, leading them through school, training, and employment opportunities, and encouraging them to take the initial step.
πŸ‘1
πŸ”Ή"A study plan that prepares every young person for the new world should also bring with it former players and their experiences."

πŸ”›This is the tool we want to give to young athletes, offering them One Two One Two. It is about looking through a different prism, a magic ball to safely peer into a parallel world, where careless everyday decisions do not lead to real issues, fines and stress. The opportunity to see a different outcome of events. The opportunity to arm oneself with information that many of their peers, and even professionals, never had. The opportunity to develop skills that will help make decisions regardless of what happens on the pitch.

🏁 The final whistle doesn't just mark the end of a game; it can signal the start of a whole new challenge for athletes.

πŸ”ΉAfter retiring, many athletes face a tough transition. The income tap turns off, and they lose the support system that clubs provide.

πŸ”ΉDespite their earnings, financial struggles can loom large. Studies show that 1 in 3 athletes face divorce within a year of retirement.

πŸ”ΉMental health concerns also weigh heavy. The loss of a career can be like losing a part of oneself. FIFPro estimates that 35% of retired athletes encounter depression and anxiety.

πŸ”ΉPlanning for retirement often takes a back seat until it's right around the corner.

πŸ”› One Two One Two isn't about skills on the field; it's exactly about life skills. How can we better prepare athletes for life beyond the game? What solutions can we offer to ease this transition? πŸ’

Gary Neville’s lesson on mental health

πŸ’¬This week, Gary Neville saw a video on Twitter of himself playing in a match many years ago. It was against Real Madrid and Peter Schmeichel was the goalkeeper for Manchester United. They lost the match and Neville made a few crucial errors.

The video was a reflection of the toughest period of Neville’s career. He was going through a series of personal problems and it was affecting his performance.

πŸ”ΉHowever, Neville also learned some important lessons from this experience. When facing challenges, it is important to:
πŸ”₯1
1️⃣Share your experience. Neville was open about seeking help from a sports psychologist and sharing the lessons he learned from this experience. This has helped others facing similar challenges.
2️⃣Ask yourself a series of questions. Like Neville did, ask yourself questions like β€œCan I expect every day to be a good day?” This will help you understand that challenges are normal and can be overcome.
3️⃣Learn and move on. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Learn from your mistakes and try to do better in the future.

πŸ”ΉFacing challenges is not easy, but it is not impossible. Neville’s story shows that you can find the strength you need to overcome challenges within yourself.

πŸ”› One Two One Two aims to support both young athletes who sign professional contracts and those who do not. The platform provides support in an engaging, entertaining, and relaxed format, helping athletes on their journey to success.
One Two One Two aims to help young athletes achieve their full potential, both on and off the field, by providing them with the essential life skills that are not taught in sports academies.

πŸ‡§πŸ‡· Gilberto Silva, former Arsenal and Brazil midfielder, is the newest ambassador for suicide prevention charity Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).

In an interview with Daily Cannon, Silva spoke about his passion for mental health awareness and his commitment to fighting social media abuse.

πŸ’¬β€œI know sometimes when you are in trouble, when you face some difficulties in life and you don’t have anybody to share them with, anybody to help you out, and you don’t have anybody to count on, to listen to you, this is so hard,” Silva said.

πŸ’¬β€œBut with the work of CALM, they have helped so many people. I hope that we can deliver this message all over the world to reach those people that believe β€˜there is no other way for me, I am alone, I don’t know what to do’.

πŸ“² Silva also spoke about the importance of being respectful on social media.
πŸ”₯1
β€œPeople’s behaviour on social media sometimes drives people to anxiety, to a terrible day,” he said. β€œStop it. Don’t listen to those people. Players, for example, as we have seen, a lot have been abused on social media. Don’t read them, block them. Simple as that.”

πŸ”ΉSilva’s new role as an ambassador for CALM is a powerful reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and suicide prevention.

πŸ’Muchaga Bakenga "I always thought if I was struggling mentally that I would know about it and do something to change the way I was feeling, but it doesn’t always work like that. And the more players I was talking to about this, the more common an issue I realised that it was. If there had been someone to talk to at the time – a dedicated professional to help me unpack my feelings and frustrations – I think I would have been able to address the situation in a much healthier way."

πŸ”›So, what exactly is One Two One Two?

πŸ”ΉOne Two One Two is a digital platform designed to equip young athletes with essential life skills that aren't taught in sports academies worldwide.
πŸ”ΉSkills such as adapting to a new team, city, or country; understanding how to present oneself in front of cameras and establishing a personal brand on social media; gaining financial literacy and a basic understanding of sports law;
recognizing ethics and cultural differences;
and learning to support one another, empathize with partners, and protect themselves and teammates from attacks and bullying.

🚫What happens to individuals who don't "make it" in football, and does it effectively prepare them for life and alternative careers?
There are around 3,500 boys in Premier League academies alone. Kofi Anokye-Boadi, 20, is a member of London's football youth development system. He grew up in a Peckham council estate and saw football as a method of escape. At the London Youth Games, he played alongside Arsenal's Reiss Nelson and Jadon Sancho, one of the world's greatest young players. Kofi was scouted by two separate academies to play for them. At 14, he lost his father to cancer and struggled with football, as well as the added strain of having to provide for his mother. He believes that academies can be uncaring places at times. "They expect you to 'grow up, man up' when you're on the field, when you get fouled -'man up, it's not that hard, it's not that bad.'" But for some of us, it's more than just a'man up' issue.
⭐Sometimes it's a case of I'm going through something here and need some assistance. I understand that it's a very male game with tough competition, but it's not always easy for some of us mentally. Sometimes all you need is an arm over your shoulders."
πŸ”›One Two One Two is a digital platform designed to provide young athletes with essential life skills that are not taught in sports academies around the world. For the challenges faced by almost every athlete, regardless of sport, country or age. However, only a select few can afford a personal manager, a special representative, and a financial advisor.
