US Debt Disaster: Fed Govt Unable to Pay Bills by mid-December, warns Yellen
US Treasury sec. Janet Yellen has written to Congress in a desperate bid to urge lawmakers to either raise or suspend the borrowing limit to avoid a potential recession describing the situation as “critical.”
Yellen stated the Fed govt could be unable to meet payments by as soon as Dec. 15. The Bipartisan Policy Center estimated last month that If action was not taken social security payments and military paychecks could be at risk.
Congress recently raised the statutory debt limit by $480 billion, but this appears to have been a short-term fix, Republicans are now calling for Biden to act to find a long-term solution.
Maybe someone needs to start looking behind the sofa?

Five Italian governors are urging the govt to follow Germany and Austria’s medical apartheid lead, amid rising Covid case rates in the country. (Daily Mail)
“Eventual new lockdowns should not have to be suffered by those who are vaccinated. Restrictions should only apply to those who are not immunized,” one of the five governor’s said in a statement.

The US government will pay drugmaker Pfizer $5.29 billion for 10 million treatment courses of its potential COVID-19 treatment if regulators authorize it, the nation’s largest purchase agreement yet for a coronavirus therapy.
Pfizer asked the Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday to authorize emergency use of the experimental pill, which has been shown to significantly cut the rate of hospitalizations and deaths among people with coronavirus infections.
The FDA is already reviewing a competing pill from Merck and will hold a public meeting on it later this month.
