The DOJ asked the Supreme Court to lift the stay on the mail-in voting Executive Order nearly four weeks ago and the court has had everything needed to render a decision for almost three weeks. Ten days ago, Judge Talwani expanded the injunction nationwide (League of Women Voters v. Trump), and the DOJ updated their filing immediately.

How did we get here?

District Court Ruling: U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani issued an injunction halting key sections of the order, finding that the directives violated the separation of powers and encroached on state authority to regulate federal elections.

First Circuit Affirmance: A panel for the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals denied the administration's request for a stay.

DOJ Emergency Petition: On July 27, 2026, Solicitor General D. John Sauer petitioned the Supreme Court to stay the injunction. The administration argued that lower court blocks cause irreparable harm by preventing federal agencies from preparing election security steps before ballots are mailed out.

Original Petition Status: The justices set briefing deadlines of August 3, 2026 to hear responses from opposing states. The Court has not yet issued an order granting or denying the requested stay.

August 11 Nationwide Injunction: U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani expanded the scope of the legal hold. While her initial ruling directly covered the 23 states involved in the original lawsuit (Trump v. California), she issued a separate preliminary injunction in League of Women Voters of Massachusetts v. Trump, blocking the U.S. Postal Service and federal agencies nationwide from implementing the executive order's mail-in voting rules.

August 12 DOJ Supplemental Filing: Solicitor General D. John Sauer submitted a supplemental brief updating the Supreme Court on the August 11 order. The Department of Justice urged the justices to resolve the broader nationwide injunction under their existing emergency application rather than waiting for a separate, redundant petition to work its way up.

With the midterms right around the corner and ballot distribution dates fast approaching, the Supreme Court’s silence is deafening. How can an "emergency petition" sit on the docket while election administrators and voters are left in limbo?

Judicial apathy at this level fails every single eligible citizen voter who deserves clarity, security, and equal access at the ballot box.

We cannot afford games when it comes to the validity and transparency of our elections.

The Pentagon moved Friday to fire three senior employees at the taxpayer-supported military newspaper Stars and Stripes, accusing them of “insubordination” amid an escalating battle over the publication’s direction.

Publisher Max Lederer, Editor-in-Chief Erik Slavin, and Middle East reporter Lara Korte were each served with separation notices and given five days to appeal, according to CBS News⁠.

The stunning shake-up comes as the Trump administration works to overhaul the military publication, drag it into the 21st century, and eliminate the “woke distractions” that have infected institutions across the federal government.

Slavin and Korte claimed they were targeted over interviews they gave to CBS News without authorization for a segment that aired in July.

Slavin told CBS that the Pentagon accused him of insubordination after he publicly declared that any effort to control the newspaper’s reporting would cross a “red line.”

“According to the notice, I am being fired for stating in a CBS interview that censorship of news for service members would constitute a red line,” Slavin said.

“The Pentagon’s public affairs office has charged me with insubordination. I stand by the principle that Stars and Stripes must remain editorially independent, as required by law and by the department’s own policies.”

Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell previously announced plans to bring Stars and Stripes “into the 21st century” and refocus the outlet away from “woke distractions that syphon morale.”

Greg Medina, 48, is a white chef who spends his days cooking meals for the homeless through Lutheran Social Services in San Bernardino.

He is also the sole provider for his 12-year-old daughter. After a long week he sat in the jacuzzi at his apartment complex, listening to a class through earbuds, minding his own business.

Surveillance video shows two black males walking up behind him. One delivered a hard kick to the back of Medina’s head with full force. They stole his phone and ran.

The attack was completely unprovoked. Medina went to the ER with a concussion but could only afford one day off work before returning, still dealing with the effects.

Police have not announced any arrests. Medina said the blow could have knocked him unconscious and left him drowning.

A white man who serves the vulnerable was targeted in a random attack by two black males, and so far no one has been held accountable and the media is largely silent.
