Allow me to adjust your expectations of ham radio data.... the most common speed is 1200 baud.... that is 0.012 Mb/second. It is just adequate for SMS messages.

The SIMPLE solution is for people to buy Walkie-Talkies. You have the potential to create an entire txt messaging network over all of Ireland using APRS or lo-ra.

https://youtu.be/YZbLblIwotE Never mind the HAM RADIO part... just accept that radio operators have worked out a method of communication that works. Here this guy talks about a repeater... but bear in mind you can have a โ€œnetโ€ on a common frequency that does not use a repeater.

It usually goes like this.... net control is in a central location between stations that are 10โ€™s of km apart. They cannot hear each other, but net control can hear all of them because he is centrally located. He will announce there is a โ€œnetโ€ going on and ask for traffic. It is customary that someone will key up and give a curtailed version of their call sign... for example I am AI4PX so when he calls for traffic I will shout out PX. It is important to keep the transmission short at this point. Several other people will also shout out but I may not be able to hear them... but net control will. Net control operator will select someone to call upon and address me as โ€œPXโ€... for example โ€œPXโ€ go ahead with your traffic. I will pass a message to him. He will then relay the pectinate information from my message from his location so everyone can hear him and my info. When this traffic is concluded he will ask for any other traffic and those people will โ€œthrow outโ€ their call signs to be answered.

The beauty of FM radio is a โ€œcapture effectโ€.. where if two people key up and talk at same time, the stronger signal usually wins. There is not interference, because the stronger signal clearly covers up the weaker signal.

Keep in mind WHen net control asks for traffic he may hear several people in sequence throwing out their call signs (or abbreviated versions of their call signs)... he will wait for one or more people to respond... then he will address them one at a time.... When his queue is exhausted he will ask for additional traffic. When there is no additional traffic he will conclude the net.

Cheap solar charge controller. A 50-100 watt solar panel will keep a battery charged and will also charge cell phone and run a ham radio.
