Hey I know this isn’t the gun forum but anyone got recommendations for night vision? I’d prefer something that uses rechargeable 18650 battery… would like something that can attach behind a scope so I can use it with and without the weapon. I’ve got some very high dollar scopes and I think it would be nice to be able to add night vision to them rather than buy a specialty nvg scope.

I know a few locksmiths and have picked up a bit from them over the years. Big Box Store locks often only have a few different keys sold there. There's often 100,000 possible combinations for these locks, and the Big Box Store only brings in a dozen. Add to that quality control issues in manufacturing, and your best option is to go to a real locksmith.

I brought the cylinder to my friend and got it rekeyed, with a new set of keys cut to code on the computerized machine. There was also a Yale deadbolt on the door to the workshop on one of the outbuildings that I had keyed alike by the same locksmith. He charged $30 a piece for rekeying.

The outbuildings, collectively, have ten doors designed to be secured with padlocks. As I have used Wilson Bohannan padlocks in outdoor applications for many years without any issue, I reached out to the company to see about having padlocks made keyed alike to the house.

Wilson Bohannan is an American padlock manufacturer that specializes in extremely weather-resistant and corrosion-resistant padlocks for outdoor use by utility companies, railroads, and the like. I had one of their locks on the sidewalk bulkhead of my old shop for five years, getting hit with rain, snow, and splashed with salt from the road a few feet away through winter. It never gave me difficulty to open or close, the stainless hasp is still shiny, and the brass body has only discolored.

I had initially wanted a rekeyable padlock, in case we have to change the key at any point in the future. With a unit price in excess of $47 apiece, we opted to go with a non-rekeyable version for a little over $15 apiece. Their minimum order for custom locks is any combination of a dozen pieces, which gives us an extra pair for future uses.

This isn't that much more expensive than a Chinesium brass padlock bought at a Big Box Store, and the convenience of having a single key for the house and outbuildings reduces a lot of the temptation to certain family members for leaving one lock or another open when they step away for a bit.

Despite the single point of failure that is the possibility of a bad actor acquiring a copy of the key, I judged the better habits a keyed alike system would give to be worth the risk. Besides, if you could lose one key, you afew just like likely to lose a keychain with all the keys.
