For its time, quite the clever idea!

today I weighed down the HDPE culvert pipe that is the pond drain line with concrete. I ended up just pouring concrete onto the pipe to envelope it and then put unopened sacks of concrete on top of that... and some stones. Now I can turn the solar pump back on and let it run again. No pictures.... it's horrible looking anyway. but it'll hold that pipe down flat on the bottom so it won't get air locked. As the pond fills up, I'll eventualy trim that pipe to be the final water level.

Side note... that mallionus dog that wandered up a few months ago... my companion. He was right there with me today. I saw a skink and tried to sic him on it... I kept pointing at it and he kept putting his head under my hand to get petted. I finally gave up trying to show it to him. Next thing I know he's sticking his head inside a 5 gallon bucket and slinging it straight up into the air.

Victron MPPT 250/100 feature.... There are several conditions where the victon MPPT will go in to what I'll call "panic mode". When it does this, it closes a latching relay across the PV inputs. This can be reset via the bluetooth app on your phone. It's a really cool feature because if you didn't anticipate the solar panel voltage going over 250v and one fine cold morning it does, then it will save itself by "crowbarring" the solar input. The other condition is if it detects a short circuit between the battery + and the PV +.

So what happened today.... (next post).

I wired up 6 strings of panels to a PV busbar and then connected two MPPT chargers to that bus bar. Today, one of those units malfuctioned and let some magic smoke out. No worries, its a warranty claim. The issue is that since it was connected to the same solar panels as teh other unit, the other unit saw some shenanigans with the voltage from teh PV positve to the battery postive and decided it should "crowbar" the solar panels.

So two different failures cascaded. I should NOT have connected two MPPT units to ONE set of solar panels. Lesson learned is each MPPT gets it's own set of dedicated solar panels.

Ordinarily you can reset the crowbar in software but it didn't work this time. So two units down and two RMAs.

Any idiot with a beard and a wife with long hair can start a youtube channel in the genre of "off grid". The cuter the wife, the more popular the channel. Change my mind.

How dare you

I think battle born battery company is finished. wow. The root cause is that they tighten the power terminal bolts thru a sheet of ABS plastic that eventually gets hot and subsides. Now the bolt is loose because the plastic it's attached to is thinner. And to think, this is a premium battery at a premuim price.
