Simple as can be...
πŸ‘19🀯1
All modern battery inverters which are hybrid types (ie for grid tie in) can control modern AC coupled solar inverters by diddling the 60hz (50hz) line frequency. They do this when they are NOT connected to the grid. The idea is that if the solar inverters are making two much power, the line frequency will ramp up to between 61-62hz and the solar inverters will sense this and ramp their power down from 100% to 0%.

Here's a graph of mine yesterday... as my batteries got full the solar inverter were throttled at 61hz, gradually rising to 62. 64hz is the "everyone stop briefly" signal and my system joined the grid. From there onward you can see the utility grid 60hz varies a little.

Finally in the evening, my SMA inverter disconnected from the grid and did a clock correction by running the house line frequency at 58hz for a few minutes.

This is how AC coupling power control looks in my system. As my batteries near full and my grid tie inverters are making full power, the battery inverter (master clock for the system) starts running the frequency up to attempt to throttle the PV inverters. At 61hz they start to slow power production. As my batteries continue to accept less and less power, finally the frequency is nudged up to 61.5hz. I have an external processor that monitors this line frequency and when it sees 61.5hz it commands my system to grid connect, but that takes 60seconds. During that 60seconds the batteries all but stop taking current and that frequency spikes to 64hz. This shuts off all PV inverters in the house and then the battery inverter can get in phase with the grid and connect without makiing the lights flicker. Within 30 seconds of seeing the frequency at 60hz, the grid tie inverters start ramping up power production and POOF we are selling to the grid.

Why would a person want to use grid tie inverters and AC coupling? Most solar systems installed today are grid tied systems because they are the cheapest. So maybe you already own the equipment!

If you were designing a system from scratch, you might consider AC coupled systems because the inverters are cheaper than the same number of MPPT PV battery chargers.

And finally, you might like the idea of giving the battery inverter a break during the day. You see during the day, AC coupled inverters make the power that runs your appliances directly and your battery inverter sits idle for the most part. In the evening your battery inverter will start running the loads in the house. So that's a 50-50 split right there.

Red Dye #3 is a dye, so it has no nutritional value. It has not been allowed in cosmetics for decades but permitted to be ingested as an unnecessary food dye? Why not ban it first of this month? Why two years? Nothing says you are living in the corporatocacrcy like the government allowing large food companies to continue using a carcinogen.

You know what doesn't contain red dye #3? The tomatos in my garden!

How does a solar inverter join the grid? Same way a generator would! You get them very close in frequency and at the moment they are in phase, connect. After they are connected they will "lock" together and stay in sync. My Sunny Island inverters do this each day. If you use a MEP802A military diesel generator, they are intended to be joined together and run for months at a time. By joining two generators together, you can seamlessly transition from one to another to refuel without loosing power to your house for example.

If you put lights across the voltage terminals from one to the other, you'll see the light get brightest when they are completely out of phase and go off when they are in phase. This is the moment you hit the combiner switch.

The more you know.....

5,184,000

In the 60hz power grid, this is the number of 60 cycles that happen in a a 24 hour period in the USA / Canada. NIST, located in Oak Ridge TN keeps count on the numer of cycles in a day and in the early hours of the morning each day will advise all generator stations to speed up or slow down until they achieve 5,184,000 cycles. In this way they keep the clocks correct on everyone's microwave oven.

When Hoover Dam was built it originally had 8 large generators and each one was designated to a different large city. For example, Los Angeles and all towns between Hoover Dam and LA could lose power but the other 7 generators would remain running. In 1946 or so, they decided to sync all those generators into one large generator. This was later extended to other generating stations and now we have the "grid" we presently enjoy.... Many producers on common wires with many loads.

Song from the 1970's.

The preacher man says it's the end of time
And the Mississippi River, she's a-goin' dry
The interest is up and the stock market's down
And you only get mugged if you go downtown
I live back in the woods, you see
My woman and the kids and the dogs and me
I got a shotgun, a rifle and a four-wheel drive
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive
I can plow a field all day long
I can catch catfish from dusk 'til dawn (yeah)
We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too
Ain't too many things these old boys can't do
We grow good-ole tomatoes and homemade wine
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive
Because you can't starve us out and you can't make us run
'Cause we're them old boys raised on shotguns
We say grace, and we say ma'am
If you ain't into that, we don't give a damn
We came from the West Virginia coal mines
And the Rocky Mountains, and the western skies
And we can skin a buck, we can run a trotline
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive
I had a good friend in New York City
He never called me by my name, just hillbilly
My grandpa taught me how to live off the land
And his taught him to be a businessman
He used to send me pictures of the Broadway nights
And I'd send him some homemade wine
But he was killed by a man with a switchblade knife
For 43 dollars, my friend lost his life
I'd love to spit some beech nut in that dude's eyes
And shoot him with my old .45
'Cause a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive
'Cause you can't starve us out and you can't make us run
'Cause we're them old boys raised on shotguns
We say grace, and we say ma'am
If you ain't into that, we don't give a damn
We're from North California and South Alabam'
And little towns all around this land
And we can skin a buck, and run a trotline
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive
A country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Cloudy day and wife is cooking. So I figured why not exercise the generator. This is a 5kw diesel MEP 802a. Right now I’m running about 80% loaded. Right now it’s running a eg4 100amp battery charger directly. The only connection it has to my system is directly to the batteries.

You may also note that the frequency is set to 62hz. The reason is that if, in the future I connect it directly to my house 240v system I want it to be at 62hz so my solar inverters don’t back feed it. When solar inverters see 62hz they sit by and make zero power.

If you do use ac coupled inverters be sure to idle your genny at 62hz. If it has a high load it’ll bog down a little and the solar will add to the power.

If you want one of these generators I can hook you up with a guy in alabama.

Doncha love when a plan comes together? The uniparty made sure Trump runs out of money on Day 2. Biden gave $1B to several countries a few weeks ago. The uniparty is truly driving the country like they stole it.

Plan accordingly.
