I posted a few days about about running saws and drills that use brushed motors on 120v dc. I just revised that article to reflect some additional info.
Brushed “universal AC” motors are series wound. That means the coil and the stator are in series with each other and oppose each other until they make a certain strength magnetic field. Until that magnetic field reaches its peak, they will draw more and more power. If the voltage is low they will draw more amps. Twice as many amps means 4x the heat. This is why long extension cords melt. Long cords mean less voltage at the far end and the motors draw more amps.
So don’t be afraid to feed them voltage just a hair over 120v.

You can plug your address into PVwatts, tell it the kW of solar panels, look in the advanced section and put in your DC-AC ratio, and it'll use historical cloud cover for your area to make predictions for solar production. How accurate is it? I plugged in my system and it gave me results broken down by month. December should see 100.55kWh per day and according to my own calculations, I'm averaging 99.59 per day since Dec 1. I'll call that a win.

A note about DC - AC ratio. If you look under advanced parameters, you'll find DC to AC size ratio. One on my arrays has 19.5kw of solar with 15.8kw of inverters. That's 1.23. Another array has 11kw of solar with 6kw of inverters and that is 1.83. Be sure to select ground or roof mount and bifacial in the advanced section. Everything else is pretty much good to go.

Dont know who might need this, but here's the formula for calculating the amp interruption rating needed for a main breaker from your utility service. I wrote this spread sheet a few years ago. Originally my solar system had a shutoff that killed the backfeed from the solar inverters. But since I've reorganized my system, that switch has been bypassed. Next week I'll be routing my service entrance cabling from the meter base thru a 100amp lockable shut off switch. It is required by code to have a lockable shut off when backfeeding the grid. Since I can't separate my solar, I'll just separate the whole house.
Basically, at 25kva transformer can deliver 100amps @ 240vac but in the case of an arc fault, it could deliver 8000amps of surge. If you have a longer feeder like I do (275ft), resistance of the wires to the pole will limit that current. So my limit is 2916amps. This is well within the limits of the fused knife switch and the 1 AWG cable I'll be using.
