These are the chicks that hatched about 7 weeks ago.

We caught two juvenile hawks getting our chicks. They would land on the fence and jump down on them. So we configured the fence of dog panels to have a top. I’ve still got some more closing in to do.

We cut a 16’ long cattle panel in half giving us two 16’x2’ lengths. We laid them along the sides of the trailer used for the coop and drove the cut off spikes into the ground to anchor them. We also put some chicken wire behind them and staked it down using the cattle panel as well.

We butchered an animal yesterday. I went out to do chores and my wife put some meat in a crock pot. She went to take a nap because she was completely exhausted from her last two weeks at work. She never got up after her nap. She just slept until after 8 this morning.

So she asks me what I did with that crock pot. I said daughter and I made some rice and ate the meat in the crock. She said ohhhh that was for the dogs. It was all the shitty trimmings and fat.

Here I thought she’d put on a stew for me and gone to bed.

Excitement today. The pic above is a trailer we converted to a chicken coop last year. It’s got a wire floor and the idea is we can just move it around the pasture as needed.

So when you decide to drop the tongue of a trailer onto the tow ball and you lift the jack up, make sure you do every step as a matter of procedure. Don’t get distracted and skip a step like ohhhh latching the lock on the tongue.

So COMPLETELY unrelated when I was pulling this around the pasture it popped off the ball hitch and I had to chase it down hilll with the tractor and push the tongue into the dirt with the bucket to stop it.

It was low speed pandemonium. The trailer rolling at 5.0mph and me chasing it at 6.2mph.

Weld a chain around the frame near the tongue of the trailer.
Make sure its long enough to go over the ball when you drop the tongue on.
Then, bolt an eye near the ball so that you can quickly clip the chain to the eye with a carabiner.
Now if it pops off for whatever reason you will at least have it chained close to the ball.
You can do this for your trailers you take on the road as well. Instead of a clip carabiner you use a sturdy security lock through the chain and eye. That way nobody can simply lift off your trailer and drive away with it.
