Off The Grid
Several people have spoken highly of the harbor freight Predator generators. You can get these as straight 3600rpm generators or inverter generators. If you can afford it, get the inverter generator. It'll last longer because it only runs as fast as itβ¦
This is one of the reasons I only directly charge the batteries from the generator so this issue never happens.

You, @Rhino, are the exact reason I charge batteries this way. Thanks for the advice a couple years ago.

MEP802A generator makes 5kw and its sister MEP803A makes 10kw. They weigh about 800lbs. They are manual start and you need a little instruction to get it right. Basically, turn on a battery switch inside the unit, then turn the rotary starter switch all the way to the right like starting a car. Finally tap a switch to turn the AC output on.
There is a compnay that makes a wifi board for it that allows you to see temperatures and oil pressure on your phone as well as run the fuel transfer pump.

"A threat to our democracy". With Colorado not allowing Turmp on the ballot and now Maine not allowing him, that's 14 electoral votes he can't get to get to 270. Do they want a civil war? Do they want several states to secede again?

Progress in the basement today... finished tidying up the conduits connecting the diesel and LP generators to the inverters.
Yesterday I wrote code in home assistant to make the house connect to the grid in the morning when the battery gets to 98% because that implies I can sell power. Well, 1/4 of my system is on teh inside of the inverters, and 1/4 of my system only got the batteries to 93% today. The other 12kw inveter is connected directly to the grid. I'll change the programming tomorrow to include that power in the calculation. Eventually, I'll rewire panels of the roof to divert 13kw into the house and add a few to still be able ot export 6kw. But I gotta sort out that damn ground fault problem first.

Getting basement wall tidy. Above inverter is a WiFi point, the egauge that tracks the house, heat pump , car charging and solar production. Also two small white vented looking things are tiny esp32 processors that query the 5 battery BMS units every few seconds and forward the data to a database.

Some more fun stuff.... flipped my ankle in a hole one of the dogs dug. I'm in a walking cast for about 5 more weeks. Sure screws up plans to go on the roof to address the solar panels.
